The Program Specialist I, under general supervision, performs entry-level specialist duties for a department, college, or division. The Program Specialist is responsible for planning, design, implementation, and analyses of field studies to improve production and increase resilience of agricultural systems in West Central Texas. This position will lead and contribute to the scholarly research output of this program via presentation of findings at academic conferences and peer-reviewed publication, as well as the Extension outputs of this program via development and dissemination of stakeholder-oriented products.
Responsibilities:
-Assists in planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, and monitoring programs and services.
-Plans and develops specialized programs such as conferences, seminars, lectures, meetings, and workshops to facilitate program goals.
-Coordinates specialized program communications and marketing materials.
-Assists in the development of policies and procedures. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of budgets, special reports, and other documents.
-Attends meetings and conferences to discuss the progress of assigned programs.
35% Research trial management - Protocol implementation for field and laboratory studies (Overseeing farm operations, planting, managing, spraying, sampling, and harvesting agronomic research trials)
15% Data management, organization, and analyses
10% Supervising students and temporary staff.
10% Maintenance of field and laboratory equipment
5% Maintain all product application records (pesticides, fertilizers, etc.).
20% Develop scholarly outputs (manuscripts, posters, presentations, Extension publications).
5% Performs other duties as assigned.
Computer 10 hours, Tractor 5 hours, Sprayer 1 hour, Combine 1 hour, cotton stripper 1 hour, sample dryer 1 hour, sample grinder 1 hour, cotton sample gin 1 hour, fiber analyzer 1 hour, grain moisture tester 1 hour.
Required Education and Experience:
-Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
M.S. in Agronomy or a related field.
Experience with farm equipment.
Experience with crop and soil research and dissemination of findings.
Experience with and understanding of small-plot crop research coordination
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
-Ability to maintain attention to detail and utilizes sound judgment.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of small-scale farm equipment as necessary
An understanding of data integrity, organization, and analyses in research.
