Head of Marketing

About Tern

Tern is a venture-backed software company on a mission to reshape the $127B travel agency industry—by giving power back to the entrepreneurs who built it.

Nearly 98% of travel agencies are small businesses. These businesses have been chronically underserved by technology. We’re here to change that. Our platform helps travel advisors run more efficient, professional, and profitable operations—giving them the modern infrastructure they need to lead the next chapter of travel.

But the impact goes beyond business. Travel advisors help clients move more intentionally through the world. When a traveler works with an advisor, they're more likely to avoid overtouristed hotspots and more likely to spend their dollars in places where they can do real good. That’s the kind of travel we want more of.

At Tern, we believe in small business. We believe in the power of travel. And we’re building the future of both.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Head of Marketing to build our marketing function from the ground up. This is a zero-to-one leadership role for someone who thrives in ambiguity, moves fast, and is obsessed with impact.

You’ll report directly to the CEO and work alongside our Events Lead. You’ll be responsible for everything that touches brand, content, and communication—from social to podcast, PR to product updates, case studies to community posts. You’ll be supported by a part-time brand designer—but otherwise, this is your show to run.

This is a role for a builder. Someone who’s done a crazy amount of work at a startup or agency and is ready to bring that energy in-house. Someone who knows how to stretch their creativity, their time, and their tools to make magic happen. Someone who wants to create momentum—not just manage it.

If you want to help small businesses around the world thrive—and bring more intentional, meaningful travel into the world—this is your role.

What You’ll Own

You’ll build and scale the entire marketing engine. Key responsibilities include:

💡 Strategy & Execution

  • Define and execute a full-funnel marketing strategy across every channel: social, case studies, video, podcast, PR, white papers, and more

  • Set the vision and then do the work—from idea to asset to measurement

  • Use AI tools to move faster without losing the human voice that makes a brand matter

📣 Storytelling & Content

  • Build a storytelling machine that brings the voices of our advisors to the forefront

  • Create high-impact case studies, videos, and written content that highlight the people we serve and the change we’re driving

  • Lead and grow the Flight Path podcast to reach and inspire the next wave of travel entrepreneurs

🌐 Engagement & Community

  • Own our social media presence, community engagement (especially in FB groups), and email comms

  • Design and execute webinars, virtual events, and drip campaigns that build connection and brand affinity

  • Partner with our Events Lead to make every in-person opportunity count

🎯 Brand Operations & Performance

  • Track and own key brand metrics and engagement KPIs

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to amplify product updates and launches

  • Work in tools like Figma, video editors, and CMS platforms to ship great content fast

About You

You’re a full-stack marketer with deep executional chops. You’ve juggled multiple priorities and still found ways to ship beautiful, strategic work. You want your next chapter to be one that matters.

You’ll thrive in this role if:

  • You’ve built marketing programs in early-stage startups or done high-output work across multiple clients in a fast-paced agency

  • You’re fluent in the tools of the trade—Figma, video editing, AI writing tools, email platforms, and more

  • You can write, produce, publish, and measure—with little to no support

  • You have strong editorial judgment and know how to tell stories that spark emotion and drive results

  • You move fast, hold a high bar, and love the challenge of building something new

If you thrive on structure and long lead times, this won’t be a fit. But if you love the thrill of 10x more work than time, and want to help reshape an industry while telling unforgettable stories, there’s no better role.

Our Values

🔁 We’re always leveling up: We believe progress is a habit. We seek feedback, embrace challenge, and get better—together.

🌄 We act with optimistic agency: We take initiative, seek clarity, and move forward even when the path is unclear.

🚀 We have extraordinary ambition: We’re building a category-defining company—and we’re doing it with urgency, clarity, and conviction.

Our Operating Principles

  1. We're anchored in a profound understanding of our users

  2. We embrace the power of and

  3. We speak up and move forward

  4. We move fast and sweat the details

  5. We take the work seriously, but not ourselves
