Founded in 1998, Walking Mountains Science Center’s mission is to awaken a sense of wonder and inspire environmental stewardship and sustainability through natural science education. Position Overview
The Marketing Manager will lead the creation and execution of strategic marketing, communications and public relations initiatives and tactics that increase program participation, visitation, philanthropic donations and corporate sponsorships while elevating Walking Mountains brand visibility throughout Eagle County and beyond. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Strategic Marketing and Communications

Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and communications strategies for sustainability programs, including but not limited to: 

  • Energy Programs: Residential and commercial energy efficiency programs, including rebate, incentive, income-qualified, and grant programs. Collaborate with local municipality and government partners, utilities, and non-profits to help reach annual program goals. 
  • Radon Programs: Lead annual Radon Action Month efforts.
  • Sustainable Business & Tourism: Grow awareness for and participation in the Sustainable Business Leadership Program, the Actively Green Certified Business Program, and the IDEAL Destination Certification program.  
  • Waste Reduction and Diversion Programs: Grow usage and downloads for the Eagle County Waste Wizard mobile app, increase awareness for Zero Waste service programs, and lead bilingual marketing outreach efforts.
  • Development Programs: Assist marketing and communications director with annual fundraising campaigns and events, including donor cultivation and corporate partner engagement efforts, signature annual fundraising events, and annual fundraising collateral.

Oversee content creation for print and digital platforms, including social media, email campaigns, and press releases.

Collaborate with program and development teams to align messaging and goals.


Campaign Execution and Management

  • Lead multi-channel marketing campaigns to increase program participation and donor engagement.
  • Track and analyze campaign performance metrics to refine strategies and improve results.
  • Manage and update the organization’s website and other digital properties to ensure timely, accurate, and engaging content.
  • Manage earned and paid social media strategy for Walking Mountains and the Climate Action Collaborative; collaborate with staff to maintain and enhance ongoing social media content calendars.

Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Supervise and mentor marketing staff, interns, and external contractors as needed to ensure additional program success for programs, including, but not limited to, the Climate Action Collaborative and Sustainable Film Series.

Brand Management and Storytelling

  • Maintain and enhance Walking Mountains’ brand identity.
  • Develop compelling stories and testimonials to share the impact of Walking Mountains’ programs and donor contributions.

Requirements

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 4+ years of professional experience in marketing, communications, or related roles, preferably in the nonprofit, sustainability, conservation or education sectors.
  • Proven success in creating and executing strategic marketing plans.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools, content management systems, and analytics platforms.
  • Excellent writing, editing, visual storytelling, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with sustainability and environmental education programs.
  • Graphic design experience using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred, but not required

Work Environment

This position offices primarily out of the Walking Mountains campus in Avon in an open office environment, indoors. Some minor travel may be required to satellite locations or program locations. Hiking or snowshoeing to capture photos/videos of programs encouraged.
