Senior Heritage Consultant

The Opportunity

Due to our continued success and increase in workload we have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Senior Heritage Consultant to join one of our UK offices e.g. Glasgow, Edinburgh, Carlisle, Stoke, Leeds, Newcastle, Bolton, Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol, London, Bury St Edmunds.

We offer flexible/hybrid working and could also consider a remote position with occasional office visits for the right person.

The role will involve working within Wardell Armstrong’s national archaeology and heritage team to help deliver exciting and transformative projects across the UK ranging from advising our clients at the out-set of project development to helping the archaeological fieldwork managers successfully deliver on-site archaeological fieldwork at pre- and post-determination stage.  

In this role you will be required to undertake a wide range of projects and be responsible for stakeholder engagement and liaison. Projects would include the production of archaeological desk-based assessments,  Heritage Statements, preparing written schemes of investigation for a variety of archaeological evaluation / mitigation works, historic building recording, and contribution to EIAs, including scoping reports, ES Chapter and technical assessment. You will also be required to seek business opportunities either through the formal tender process or through developing business opportunities within your professional network. You will be expected to contribute to the overall development of Wardell Armstrong’s archaeology and heritage  team, through mentoring staff and maintaining quality.

You:

  • Degree in relevant discipline ideally Post-Graduate qualification in archaeology or building conservation or a related discipline
  • Membership of Professional Institute (CIfA)
  • Comprehensive understanding of the historic environment in the planning process
  • Good understanding of planning legislation and policy across the UK
  • Experienced in technical report writing
  • Good communication and written skills;
  • Experience in client liaison;
  • Ability to utilise GIS to review HER data and create fieldwork strategies;
  • Project Management experience
  • Technical specialism in appropriate area of expertise
  • Ability to undertake effective business development
  • Drivers license and own vehicle
