Public Relations Manager

Position Summary/Objective:

The Public Relations Manager plays a critical role in shaping and promoting the public image of PBR as a premier global sports and entertainment property. As a key member of the PR team, this individual will help develop and execute strategic media and communications plans that support the organization's mission to elevate bull riding as a widely recognized, respected, and celebrated sport. This role demands a creative thinker with strong media instincts, exceptional writing skills, and a passion for building relationships that drive positive exposure and engagement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement comprehensive PR strategies and event-specific media plans that support organizational goals and brand positioning.
  • Serve as a primary media liaison during events, managing schedules, media day logistics, press materials, and talent/media coordination for rider interviews and appearances.
  • Partner with the Marketing and Sponsorship Promotions teams to amplify event promotion through integrated campaigns.
  • Draft and edit a wide range of content including press releases, web copy, media advisories, press kits, video scripts, and talking points that reflect PBR's voice and objectives.
  • Lead efforts to secure earned media coverage by proactively pitching national, regional, and local outlets across TV, radio, print, and digital platforms.
  • Maintain and manage accurate and up-to-date media contact lists, rider profiles, and communication assets.
  • Coordinate the development and distribution of key publications including the annual media guide, fact sheets, and promotional collateral.
  • Maintain and update media-related content on PBR’s official website, ensuring accurate and timely communication.
  • Prepare and distribute regular internal briefings to keep marketing and communications staff aligned on event activities, media priorities, and schedules.
  • Monitor and respond to media inquiries in a timely and professional manner, escalating where appropriate.
  • Support on-site event operations as part of the PR team, providing direct media support and coverage management during live events.
  • Assist in identifying and executing innovative PR opportunities, storytelling angles, and brand partnerships to elevate the sport's cultural relevance.
  • Work collaboratively across departments and assist team members with broader marketing and communications initiatives as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to craft compelling narratives and deliver effective pitches.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project coordination skills.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with shifting priorities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with media monitoring or distribution platforms (e.g., Meltwater, Cision).
  • Working knowledge of the Associated Press (AP) Stylebook.
  • A self-starter with a collaborative mindset and a solutions-oriented attitude.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Portuguese or Spanish is a plus.

Education & Formal Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field – preferred.

Experience:

  • 2–4 years of professional experience in PR, communications, or media relations—preferably in the sports, entertainment, or lifestyle space.

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office hours Monday-Friday, with some weekends and extended hours.
  • Frequent travel, including weekends and extended hours, required for PBR events and meetings.
