Job Description

AECOM is seeking a dynamic Traffic Engineer to join our world class transportation team in Birmingham, AL. As Traffic Engineer you will have the opportunity to work on signature projects with local and state entities. You will also be part of growing team of traffic and transportation professionals. Typical Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and simple tests.
  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
  • Identifies discrepancies in results.
  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements 

  • BA/BS + (4) four years of demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain within (6) six months of start of employment.
  • 5+ years of experience in Traffic Engineering.
  • Experience in supporting business development activities including preparing project proposals and firm marketing.
  • Experience in traffic operational analysis including traffic projections, analysis, and simulation; traffic safety analysis, traffic signal warrants, traffic signal and pedestrian crossing control system analysis, and design; and traffic signing and pavement marking analysis and design.
  • Experience in task/project management, staff oversight, application and development of technical skills, and experience working directly with internal and external clients.
  • Experience in mentorship and development of traffic engineering interns and / or new graduate staff.
  • Familiar with or knowledge of: Synchro, VISSIM, MicroStation, or other similar applications.
  • Proficient with standard Microsoft Office applications.
