Job Description

AECOM is seeking a GIS Summer Intern to be based in Houston, Texas.

This position is expected to begin in March 2025.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to

  • Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional. 
  • Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study.
     

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or other related fields with a strong emphasis in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and must have completed at least 2 of years of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Surface water-related experience or interest including coastal engineering, flood modeling, and flood resilience planning.
  • Experience with programming or automation including Python.
  • Mobile or web-based GIS development or customization.
  • Hands-on experience with Esri ArcGIS Pro, Esri Experience Builder, and Microsoft Office Suite software.
  • Knowledge of GIS practices, processes, and procedures.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong desire to work in a fast-paced team environment across different engineering disciplines.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
