The Quality Assurance Nurse (QAN) is responsible for evaluating, monitoring, and improving the quality of patient care within the hospital. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, oversees quality improvement initiatives, and prepares reports for leadership and regulatory bodies. Identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement in patient care and safety. Develop and implement corrective action plans in collaboration with clinical teams. Compliance Reporting Prepare and submit timely reports to regulatory agencies, including CMS, CDPH, and state health departments as applicable. Ensure all documentation meets standards set by accreditation bodies and government regulations. Monitor changes in healthcare regulations and communicate updates to relevant teams. Data Analysis and Reporting Collect and analyze data related to patient outcomes, infections, and adverse events. Create dashboards and detailed reports for leadership to facilitate data-driven decision-making. Present findings and recommendations during quality committee meetings. Performance Improvement Initiatives Lead quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and operational efficiency. Provide education and training to staff on quality assurance and process improvement methodologies. Facilitate root cause analyses (RCAs) and failure mode and effect analyses (FMEAs) as necessary. Interdisciplinary Collaboration Work closely with clinical staff, department heads, and hospital leadership to promote a culture of safety and quality. Serve as a liaison between the hospital and external agencies during inspections and surveys. Policy and Procedure Development Assist in developing, reviewing, and updating hospital policies and procedures to align with best practices and regulatory requirements. Ensure that clinical staff are informed of and comply with updated policies. Education and Training Conduct training sessions on quality metrics, compliance requirements, and safety standards. Mentor staff on quality improvement techniques and the use of reporting tools. Education/Experience Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in nursing or healthcare administration preferred. Active RN license in the state of California. Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience; prior experience in quality assurance or performance improvement preferred. Certified Professional in Healthcare of Quality (CPHQ) or similar certification preferred. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Proficiency in quality improvement tools such as NHSN databases as well as Athena and Point Click Care EMR systems. Knowledge of healthcare regulations, including CMS, CDPH, and LA County. Working Conditions Primarily works in an office setting within the hospital but may occasionally visit clinical areas for audits or trainings. May require occasional travel for training and conferences. Key Competencies Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compiance. Ability to lead and influence teams without direct authority.
