Description

The Graduate Engineer position at Civilitude is an exciting opportunity for engineering graduates to join our team and kickstart their career in civil engineering. In this role, you will work alongside experienced engineers and gain practical experience in various aspects of civil and land development projects. You will assist in design tasks, project analysis, and documentation, contributing to our commitment to deliver exceptional solutions in the infrastructure industry. Additionally, this role supports the implementation of sidewalks, bikeways, and urban trails through field coordination, schematic markups, general permitting support, and on-site monitoring of compliance with ADA/TAS/PROWAG standards. 

This is an ideal role for someone early in their civil engineering career who is eager to learn in the field. You’ll work under the supervision of licensed engineers and alongside general contractors, inspectors, and city project managers to solve real-world challenges that improve community infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of civil engineering designs, including grading plans, drainage systems, and site plans under the mentorship of senior engineers.
  • Participate in project evaluations, including conducting site visits and collecting data for design and planning.
  • Support the preparation of project documentation, reports, and materials needed for permits and regulatory compliance.
  • Learn to use engineering software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and apply it to drafting and design tasks.
  • Contribute to team meetings, sharing insights and observations from project work.
  • Engage with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to foster collaborative project development.
  • Stay informed about the latest engineering practices and trends in civil engineering and related fields.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and willingness to learn from constructive feedback.
  • Travel to construction sites to support day-to-day fieldwork.
  • Observe demolition, formwork, and PROWAG-compliant grading operations.
  • Communicate with contractors, property owners, and city staff to ensure clarity on project needs.
  • Support field scoping by marking up base maps under supervision.
  • Assist with gathering data for general permit applications and TCP plans.
  • Help prepare cost estimates and track quantities.
  • Capture field photos using mobile GIS tools and help with daily reporting.
  • Schedule and attend preconstruction and progress meetings with city staff and GCs.
  • Maintain field records, assist with punchlists, and participate in RAS inspections.
  • Review contractor work against plans and specifications under engineer guidance.
  • Help coordinate with city departments (e.g., ATD, ATSD) for striping, signals, and related work.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Strong foundation in engineering principles through coursework and projects.
  • Familiarity with engineering design software, such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with an emphasis on teamwork.
  • Problem-solving abilities and an analytical mindset.
  • Adaptability and eagerness to take on new legal challenges.
