Project Designer - Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer

Gannett Fleming TranSystems has completed more than 400 assignments worldwide as a recognized leader in the continually evolving transportation operations and engineering arena. Gannett Fleming TranSystems addresses prime transportation client concerns, including reducing fuel consumption and emissions, managing incidents, and providing vital traveler information. Our capabilities include intelligent transportation systems, freeway and arterial management, performance measurement, traffic signal systems, traffic management center staffing and support, freight operations, tolling and pricing systems, road weather management, and public transportation. Gannett Fleming TranSystems efficiently manages existing transportation networks and provides direction on smart city initiatives.

Our ITS team is looking for a highly motivated Senior Intelligent Transportation Systems Designer / Engineer who wants to join an exciting team of transportation professionals in our Transportation Operations Group. This position will have the opportunity to work on ITS and traffic signals projects throughout Long Island, New York.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering design services throughout the project life-cycle, from concept through construction.
  • Works with lead engineer and other disciplines to prepare appropriate designs, as dictated by the scope of work.
  • Performs engineering analysis related to design, implementation, and operations of ITS elements and sub-systems.
  • Analyzes moderate to complex design problems requiring the development of new or improved techniques or procedures.
  • Assess the impact of construction and utility work on the ITS infrastructure and develop necessary mitigation measures.
  • Develop engineering drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages, as required.
  • Communicates with clients on task oriented issues and on project issues under the direction of the project manager.
  • Use strong writing skills and engineering planning to develop guidance documents and reports such as systems engineering documents.
  • Interaction with clients to relay clear, concise and consistent project related updates.
  • Participate in projects by completing tasks within schedule and budget.
  • Participate in project meetings.
  • Performs project site visits and field work, as required.
  • Assist with testing and resolving technical issues during new installations or modifications of ITS field equipment.

What you will bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or relavent degree
  • EIT 
  • 6 -10 years' experience working in a relevant field 
  • Experience with MicroStation
  • Expertise with MS Office
  • Ability to travel in Long Island and in the field, as required
  • Strong desire in developing a career in ITS

What we prefer you bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Civil or Electrical preferred
  • Path to obtain P.E. licensure, PE preferred
  • Experience with management of project tasks preferred
  • Traffic signal and/or fiber optic communication system design experience is preferred

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000 per year. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
