JOB OVERVIEW: Guthrie County Hospital is seeking an experienced and compassionate Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to lead and oversee our nursing and patient care operations. The CNO will play a critical role in the strategic direction and growth of our nursing services, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care, and fostering an environment that supports staff development and innovation. As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CNO will collaborate closely with other department leaders and medical staff and contribute to the overall goals of the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Leadership & Strategy: Lead the departments supervised and ensure alignment with the hospital’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals. Develop and execute strategies for enhancing the quality of care and improving patient outcomes.
· Operations: Oversee daily operations including staffing, budget management, policy implementation, and adherence to regulatory standards. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
· Patient Care Excellence: Drive initiatives to ensure high standards of patient care. Monitor and evaluate patient satisfaction, safety, and outcomes, and implement continuous improvement strategies.
· Staff Development: Foster a positive and collaborative work environment. Promote professional development, continuing education, and retention of staff. Mentor and guide department leadership.
· Collaboration & Communication: Serve as a liaison between the staff and executive leadership. Collaborate with other departments to improve patient care processes and hospital operations.
· Financial Oversight: Work with department leaders to develop and manage budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources. Monitor departmental expenses and recommend cost-saving initiatives without compromising care quality.
· Quality Improvement & Compliance: Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and clinical outcomes. Ensure services meet accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
· Innovation & Research: Stay current with trends and innovations in nursing practice and healthcare delivery. Foster a culture of evidence-based practice and encourage staff to engage in research and professional activities.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Education: Minimum Associates Degree Nursing (ADN), Bachelors or Masters degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or a related field preferred.
· Licensure/Certification: Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa required. Certification in Nursing Administration or Leadership preferred.
· Experience: 3 years’ experience in a healthcare supervisory or administrative capacity preferred
· Skills:
o Proven leadership abilities and excellent interpersonal skills.
o Strong strategic planning and financial management capabilities.
o In-depth knowledge of healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices.
o Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
o Ability to influence and drive change at all organizational levels.
