  • Salary ranges from $97,099.24 to $104,941.87 per annum plus Superannuation

Hume City Council EYM provides high quality educational programs across 34 services within the Hume municipality. We operate sessional kindergarten, long day and occasional care programs. The role of the Early Years Workforce Team Leader is an essential leadership role to support the selection, recruitment and supervision of casual Early Childhood Teachers, and Educators. 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop a streamlined process for engagement of relief staff in early years services.
  • Explore systems to support staff relief allocations and oversee Comensura process for booking of relief staff.
  • Reduce agency spend by building casual pool and overseeing placement of relief staff across Hume services.  Develop partnerships and relationships with stakeholders and relief agency organisations.
  • Reviewing P&C reports on staff identified as meeting eligibility for casual conversion and working with Regional Coordinators to determine next steps. 
  • Recruit to casual pool to provide relief teachers and educators to Hume early years services.
  • Undertake half yearly reviews with casual staff.
  • Manage induction, ongoing training, development, and performance of casual pool.
  • Coordinate the collection of renewed certifications for casual staff including Working with Children Checks, Victorian Institute of Teaching and First Aid qualifications and forwarding these to People and Culture for storage.
  • Review induction procedures for early years staff.
  • Co-ordinate Student Placements in early years services, working with internal partners.
  • Build partnerships with universities, TAFEs, and high schools to support career pathways to organise student placements in Hume early years services to facilitate a workforce pipeline into services.
  • Explore opportunities for traineeships and upskilling of educators.
  • Work with the Regional Co-ordinator team to implement a process to manage internal staff changes annually.
  • Liaise with People & Culture to provide updated contract letters to internal staff.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to EY administration officer and Early Years Kindergarten Funding and Enrolment officer
  • Review and implement effective recruitment processes
  • Support Regional Co-ordinators to arrange bulk recruitment days
  • Shortlist candidates and support reference check process

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • Understanding of the objectives and goals of Early Years unit and knowledge of Council’s policies and HR procedures relevant to the work of the Unit and Department.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the application of relevant legislation and regulatory framework relating to family and children’s services
  • Strong understanding of the legislative and regulatory framework applying to children’s services including Council EBA.
  • Knowledge of early years recruitment and relief requirements and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and supervise staff.
  • Demonstrated people management, coaching and guidance skills
  • Demonstrated experience in contributing to policy development and designing and implementing streamlined and consistent systems, procedures and processes.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Required Certifications & Qualifications:

  • Relevant degree or diploma in Early Childhood Development or a related area, with some relevant experience. Or lesser formal qualifications with substantial relevant experience.
