Electrical Engineer - Senior Engineer I or III, Design Services

Overview

Savannah River Mission Completion is seeking Electrical Engineers to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site.

 

The Electrical Engineer (Senior Engineer I or III) in the Design Services organization implements solutions to engineering challenges to meet standards set by the Department of Energy (DOE) for the SRMC project.

Responsibilities

Senior Engineer I job responsbilities:

  • Plan and develop conventional engineering and scientific solutions for technical problems or project objectives using SRMC engineering methodologies and requirements.  Assist more senior engineering personnel in performing related activities on more complex tasks. 
  • Assume technical responsibility for one or more phases of a program and/or ownership for unit operations within processing facilities.  Collaborate with colleagues to provide innovative improvements to the existing processes.
  • Specific job responsibilities many involve the following assignments: provide project engineering and facility engineering support; develop Single Line Diagrams, Control Schematics, Circuit/Raceway/Wiring/Connection, Grounding, and Heat Tracing design; perform technical calculations; select and size Electrical equipment; develop Electrical Equipment procurement requirements, specifications and data sheets; perform vendor drawing reviews, design reviews, and commercial grade dedication.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional responsbilities at the Senior Engineer III level:

  • Provides innovative methods or solutions on a diverse range of highly complex problems that require in-depth analysis of multiple tangible and intangible factors and the creative use of established methods.
  • Collaborates with colleagues across the company including senior management and periodically with outside stakeholders/organizations (e.g. DOE, regulators, affiliates).
  • Serves as the primary technical contact on large projects and collaborates with site industry experts as well as service, material and technology providers.
  • Ensures system configurations are managed safely and effectively.
  • Maintains consistency between the Safety Basis/Technical Baseline and facility physical configurations.
  • Monitors and tracks the status of assigned systems.
  • Provides Operations assistance determining equipment operability, correcting out of specification conditions, and evaluating questionable data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university with relevant professional engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of advanced engineering principles and practices to develop appropriate outputs.
  • Working knowledge of National Codes and Standards including but not limited to IEC, NEC, NFPA, NEMA, IEEE, and OSHA.
  • Experience with DCS and PLC interfaces.
  • Proficiency with 2D MicroStation v8 CADD.
  • Ability to perform walkdowns.
  • Experience with ETAP and Arc Flash Hazard analysis.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a changing environment with multiple demands and priorities.
  • Good organizational and communication skills. Ability to express ideas concisely and clearly, both verbally and in writing.

Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), a prime contractor for the US Department of Energy, is responsible for managing the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site’s Liquid Waste operations contract. Located in Aiken, South Carolina, SRMC is a limited liability company formed by nuclear operations and environmental remediation global leaders BWXT, Amentum, and Fluor. The SRMC Team is responsible for the closure of waste tanks, the operation of the Savannah River Site’s Defense Waste Processing Facility, tank farm operations and associated production and disposal facilities.  https://www.savannahrivermissioncompletion.com
