Expected Hours of Operation: Monday - Sunday 3am -4pm/ rotating shifts, days, weekends and holidays
The Correctional Food Service Worker is responsible for the preparation, cooking, serving of meals, and clean up in a correctional facility. This position requires adherence to strict hygiene and safety standards while working within the unique environment of a correctional institution. The role involves ensuring that meals are prepared in a timely and efficient manner and that all food service operations comply with facility regulations and health standards.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
· Prepare and cook meals according to established menus and recipes.
· Operate and maintain kitchen equipment, including ovens, fryers, and mixers.
· Ensure food is cooked to appropriate temperatures and within safety guidelines.
· Serve meals to inmates according to portion control and dietary needs.
· Distribute food to designated areas, ensuring all meals are delivered promptly and in good condition.
· Monitor and manage food trays or packaging to ensure accuracy and prevent contamination.
· Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, food preparation areas, and serving stations, to include washing dishes.
· Follow sanitation guidelines to prevent foodborne illnesses and contamination.
· Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of kitchen tools.
· Assist with inventory management, including receiving, storing, and tracking food supplies.
· Report any shortages or equipment malfunctions to the Food Service Manager.
· Follow facility policies and procedures related to food service and inmate management.
· Document food temperatures, portion sizes, and any relevant incidents or issues
· Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor when interacting with inmates.
· Ensure that meals are served efficiently while following security protocols.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Previous experience in food service or culinary roles is preferred but not required.
· Basic cooking and food preparation skills.
· Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
· Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
· Strong organizational and time-management skills.
· Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
· Capacity to stand for extended periods and perform tasks that require physical exertion.
· Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions.
Other Requirements:
· Must pass a background check and comply with facility security protocols.
· Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
· Work is performed in a correctional facility kitchen, which may involve exposure to loud noises and varying temperatures.
· Adherence to facility security and safety measures is mandatory.
