Financial Analyst
This position will provide financial services to support the goals and objectives of the Financial Planning and Analysis department of Nicor Gas Company. The focus is on value creation by engaging in analysis, identification of issues, support of the Financial Plan and implementation of strategy with timely and accurate management reporting.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Functional Expertise:
•Assist in maintenance and preparation of the annual budget and forecast.
•Assess financial performance against budget/forecast, including risks and opportunities to budget/forecast.
•Maintain and assist in development of various financial models and tools.
•Develop and execute strategies to meet the company’s overall financial objectives.
•Develop management presentations to communicate to various financial updates.
•Assist with the development of the company’s capital expenditure budget/forecast.
•Participate in the monthly close process including preparation of accruals, journal entries, reconciliations and other closing responsibilities as needed.
•Support regulatory filings.
Business Acumen:
•Analyze financial and non-financial data to help drive business decisions.
•Articulate results, variances, and key drivers effectively.
•Develop recommendations and alternatives to meet objectives.
•Demonstrate knowledge of the business and industry in analyses.
•Understand basics of capital expenditure forecasting.

•Foster relationships with managers and peers.
•Communicate effectively with all levels of the business.
•Influence business decisions by sharing analyses and expertise.
Driving Results:
•Monitor results versus plan and work with business leaders to achieve desired results.
•Identify process and/or profit improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Certifications/Licenses:
Required:
•BS/BA degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or other requiring application of analytical techniques.
Related Work Experience:
Required:
•2+ years experience in financial planning, financial analysis, and/or accounting or related fields.
•Experience with financial models (Excel or database-driven models) and the ability to troubleshoot issues.
Preferred:
•Understanding of utility Finance and capital forecasting.
•Utility, natural gas or other energy industry experience.
Applicant may possess a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
Specific Skills & Knowledge:
Required:
•Ability to handle multiple projects with changing priorities.
•Ability to work independently yet keep management informed as appropriate.
•Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
•Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
•Basic to intermediate knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Preferred:
•Basic to intermediate knowledge of Oracle or similar financial system.
•Basic to intermediate knowledge of dashboard creation and maintenance.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
•4 days in the office / 1 day remote; conditions may change due to Company policy.
