Job Summary
The UBC Centre for Disease Control, based at British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) is currently searching for a highly qualified and enthusiastic candidate to fill the full-time position of Project Coordinator, Food Safety. The Project Coordinator will report to the Associate Professor of School of Population and Public Health and will be supported by Manager of Food Protection, Environmental Health Services, or their designates. They will be responsible for coordinating and implementing new projects and food safety initiatives, with a special focus on emerging threats and climate change. This role includes developing and implementing project work plans, identifying resources, and creating business cases. The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for evaluating options and recommending solutions or courses of action to support project goals. The position is grant-funded and may be extended. Additionally, the role will have the option of a hybrid work arrangement.
Organizational Status
The Project Coordinator, Food Safety will report directly to the Associate Professor of School of Population and Public Health. In addition, the Project Coordinator will be supported by the Manager of Food Protection. The Project Coordinator will work collaboratively with all Food Protection team members.
Work Performed
• Plans and implements projects and initiatives within the service line in collaboration with the Food Protection team. Makes decisions and recommendations regarding project scope and related changes required to facilitate a successful outcome. Implements or contributes to the implementation of effective processes to assess project risks, identify risk mitigation strategies, and monitor risk throughout the project lifecycle. Will work collaboratively with the Manager of Food Protection or designates to ensure successful development, monitoring, and implementation of the project/initiative plans.
• Establishes detailed project charter, plans and objectives to outline timelines and project deliverables. Executes project plan according to project methodologies, ensures successful and coordinated completion of project components, facilitates consensus with stakeholders and partners as needed and ensures readiness for project implementation and advance project goals.
• Analyzes, and reports on research and best practices needed to advance food safety projects and research initiatives. Assists investigators with planning and implementing food safety research. Completes literature reviews to support best practices and performs consultative interviews to provide current research and thinking to support implementation plans relating to various food safety projects. Participates in supporting best practice innovations by preparing proposals and business cases.
• Coordinates administrative support for food safety projects by reporting on project status, and managing general support functions.
• Supports the Manager of Food Protection or designate(s) in annual work planning, contributing to budget development. Monitors the budgets and core activities to ensure that funds are spent as planned within budget and that program objectives are achieved. Tracks research spending and expenditures to prepare and monitor budget forecasts by planning intervals. Assists in developing strategies to address variances by reviewing information and making recommendations to the Manager of Food Protection or designate(s).
• In collaboration with the Manager of Food Protection or designate(s) represents the service line at various forums, such as meetings, workshops, and conferences, to share information, seek input, and give presentations.
• Coordinates the review and revision of the Food Protection website content. Supports the Food Protection team in planning, programming, and publishing new materials.
• Prepares confidential analytical reports, briefing documents, and policies and procedures by researching topics.

The Project Coordinator is expected to exhibit professionalism while maintaining poise and discretion when dealing with people from diverse backgrounds or working with sensitive information. It is crucial to avoid errors when performing duties related to coordination, operations, and staff management. Such errors could cause delays in meeting critical deadlines, compromise the results of projects, and damage the credibility of the team. Any mistakes made in this regard could significantly impact the effectiveness, image, reputation, and financial status of the Food Protection team and BCCDC.

Works independently and reports to the Associate Professor of School of Population and Public Health, and is supported by the Manager of Food Safety, or designate(s).

Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
