Job Description

Allergan Aesthetics R&D, Biological Research Group at AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated and innovative candidate for the role of Associate Scientist II- In vivo Pharmacology. The successful candidate for this position will contribute to projects aimed at in vivo pharmacological characterization of novel therapeutics. She/He/They will work independently, as well as with a team, to conduct in vivo pharmacology models of the skin in a discovery research environment. She/He/They will be required to demonstrate technical expertise conducting in vivo experiments in rodents. With guidance from senior scientific team members, the candidate will carry out all aspects of in vivo pharmacology studies including, planning and coordination of simultaneous in vivo studies, preparation of reagents and ordering of supplies, dosing, anesthesia, injections, imaging, and be responsible for welfare of animals in their care. The candidate is expected to organize, analyze, interpret results, and present findings with recommendations for next steps to senior team members and in team meetings.

The position requires the candidate to productively interact with cross-functional and matrixed teams. The individual will collaborate extensively with other research scientists, while taking initiative and personal responsibility for the success of assigned tasks and projects. She/He/They must be skilled in communicating and collaborating with discovery project team members at all grade levels and with diverse background, skill sets, and levels of expertise. The candidate will maintain a productive and inclusive collaborative laboratory environment consistent with department and company expectations. She/He/They must conduct all work activities in compliance with AbbVie international and applicable regulatory requirements with strict adherence to safety policies and procedures.

 

Responsibilities

  • Design experimental plans with guidance and support from senior scientific team members.
  • Independently generate precise and reliable and reproducible data by planning, executing, and analyzing results from in vivo studies to answer scientific questions.
  • Perform routine tasks competently and independently to generate reliable and consistent results, impacting projects mostly through lab-based activities.
  • Learn and understand new experimental techniques.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency to investigate, identify, develop, optimize, and troubleshoot new methods/ techniques/ instrumentation to address critical project needs.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills with detailed and organized documentation of experimental plans, data analysis, dissemination of results, and electronic notebook record keeping.
  • Communicate effectively with team to efficiently perform multiple activities/ projects simultaneously, adapting to experimental needs when necessary.
  • Strict adherence to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug substances and animal care where applicable.
  • Ability to conduct procedures, adhering to safety rules and expectations, which require lifting materials, movement of animals and equipment, and consistently standing for extended periods of time, to include walking and including but not limited to: grasping, squeezing, pushing, pulling, squatting, stooping, and bending.
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule which includes weekend and holiday coverage.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years of experience in either academic or industry laboratory setting; OR Master’s Degree.
  • Experience with in vivo rodent models is required.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Knowledge of skin and hair biology is preferred.
  • Experience with Molecular Biology techniques preferred.

Other Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates effective use of software, such as MS-Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), data acquisition systems, document management software, GraphPad Prism, etc.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.​​

  • We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off (vacation, holidays, sick), medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) to eligible employees.​​

  • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs. ​​
