We are looking for a brilliant Backend Engineer (Scala) to join our team. As a Backend Engineer (Scala), you will play a key role in developing and maintaining the backbone of our company, which is our platform. You will be working in a small, international team to design, implement and optimise software solutions that enhance our e-commerce platform, streamline business processes, and bring ideas forward that will have a direct impact on our business and our customers. 

This position is immediately available (32- 40 hours) at our HQ at the Singel in Amsterdam. As part of a hybrid team you'll collaborate with colleagues living in Spain, France, Luxembourg, Portugal & The Netherlands.  

You'll be...

  • Participating in the full web development lifecycle, from ideation to deployment
  • Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable and high-performance backend applications using Scala and related technologies.
  • Working in a reactive system (with event sourcing, CQRS and message-driven microservices) in a Google Cloud environment using Lagom, Kubernetes and Kafka. 
  • Further improve our way of working with the experience you have in your agile way of working and strong focus on automation.
  • Working on integrations with other Ace & Tate systems as well as third party integrations
  • Engaging in continuous testing, bug fixing, automation and code reviews to maintain high-quality standards

  • Write pragmatic code that gets the job done, is easy to read, maintainable and performant
  • Have professional experience with Scala, Java, or Kotlin
  • Have a passion for staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and industry trends
  • Have proven ability to collaborate effectively in a hybrid, cross-functional team environment.
  • Have excellent communication skills, enabling you to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical team members.
  • Are fluent in English.

  • Experience with GCP, AWS or other cloud platforms
  • Knowledge of Domain Driven Design, Event Sourcing and Reactive Architectures
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Kafka and Terraform
