Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Consolidate performance and demonstrate consistency in the core skills acquired during initial training. Begin cross training and demonstrate proficiency in the core skills of another area.
• Comply with the appropriate safety and study requirements as described in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and regulatory authorities including but not limited to ALCOA+, USDA, AAALAC, and governmental regulations.
• Comply with appropriate safety and health practices including personal protective equipment and barrier requirements, as applicable.
• Handle, restrain, and manipulate animals consistently, professionally, and with empathy.
• Recognize animal behavior, health status and report to appropriate channels.
• Perform animal husbandry (cleaning, feed, sanitation, enrichment, etc.) on a regular basis.
• Operate, maintain, and perform equipment tasks (e.g. cage washers, autoclave, cage movement) on a regular basis.
• Observe and report any aberrations in animal room environments (room temperature, humidity, lighting, ventilation, vermin, etc.).
• Perform general facility cleaning, stocking, and inventory.
• Prepare rooms, sanitize, and repair as needed.
• Receive, and distribute animals for isolation, study assignment or consolidation.
• Meets acceptable data standards according to the data quality performance standards. Work is done with integrity and can be relied upon. Checks data upon completion and assists with daily data review of both electronic and paper data. Deviations, edits, etc. are done in a timely manner.
• Acts as support group for other departments (e.g., moving animals from building to building, cage changes, bringing animals to necropsy, etc.).
• Participates in a weekend and evening rotations, as needed.

Non-Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Attend training programs to become more knowledgeable of and develop expertise in laboratory animal science.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent).

Work Experience: 6-12 months animal experience required; 12-36 months preferred.

Supervisory Experience: N/A

Certificates/Licenses /Registrations: AALAS certification preferred

Computer Skills: Basic computer skills.

Language(s) Skill: Ability to effectively comprehend and communicate (verbal and written) in a professional manner.

Math Skills: Basic math skills.

Training Requirements: Continual GLP training.

Other Requirements: Ability to work with a diverse group of people in a fast-paced environment. Positive attitude toward work and co-workers.
