Engineering Manager

Team you will be joining

The Bellese PCS Team is charged with supporting the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in their effort to modernize the Medicare Payment System. We employ a research-driven, user-centered, agile, and adaptive product development approach to deliver modern and standards-based solutions.


This effort empowers CMS to provide responsive, correct, and accessible systems and processes for processing payments. The team works very closely with our CMS customer teams, as well as other teams in the modernization effort.

What you will be doing as an Engineering Manager
  • Manage and lead one or more teams of software and DevOps engineers (currently 12), fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
  • Oversee the design, development, and delivery of high-quality, innovative software solutions.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers to align team activities with product vision and business goals.
  • Monitor team performance and provide regular feedback, coaching, and career development to team members through regular one-on-ones.
  • Drive efficient processes and standards to enable team success and maintain high engineering standards.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, software development, and code review.
  • Participate in resource planning and recruitment activities to scale the engineering team as necessary.
  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and positive team culture.
  • Contribute to the growth of Bellese’s engineering practice with other engineering leaders


You have experience with
  • Direct knowledge is great, but knowledge with alternative products is perfectly OK! The concepts are likely the same, and new tech can be learned.
  • Managing team(s) of engineers, coaching, and mentoring
  • Agile development methodologies and tools - we use GitHub, Jira, Confluence 
  • Backend development - we use Java 17+, Spring Boot, Maven, OpenAPI/Swagger
  • Testing - we use JUnit, Postman, Newman, SonarQube
  • AWS services - we use Fargate/ECS, RDS, CloudWatch
  • CI/CD tools - we use Jenkins, JFrog Artifactory, Docker
  • BONUS: Familiarity with HL7 FHIR, as Bellese is building our expertise in this area


Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of work experience.
