The mission of the Office of Communications is to provide the tools, strategies, products and programs to support the brand and its content, and to continually grow Brookings’s impact and effectiveness as a change agent for public policy in the United States and around the world. This purpose is realized if we help our scholars raise awareness, set the agenda and shape the debate around the public policy issues they choose to address.
Position Location: This position is hybrid. Hybrid positions combine regular in-person presence at our Washington, DC, office with the option of two days of remote work each week.
Please Note: This position is included in the staff bargaining unit, Brookings United, affiliated with the IFPTE Local 70 union, and is covered under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.

The Multimedia Manager plays a crucial role in promoting Brookings' research and insights to key audiences through the creation and distribution of innovative and compelling visuals across digital and print platforms. This role is responsible for managing and optimizing Brookings' YouTube presence, ensuring that our content is engaging, informative, and aligned with our mission. They possess a strong understanding of visual storytelling, proficiency in graphic design and video production, and a keen eye for creating content that aligns with our brand identity and positions Brookings at the forefront of digital media.
Multimedia Asset Creation & Management (50%)
Create compelling video content that helps present our research and insights to stakeholders in engaging ways, includes conceptualizing, developing, shooting, and editing videos, as well as creating motion graphics and animations.
Ensure we have high-quality photos to represent Brookings, including the planning, shooting, and editing of these assets.
Design general graphic content that aligns with our brand and supports our communications goals. Examples include graphics, data visualizations, animations, and interactive digital content for various platforms.
Manage multimedia projects, effectively scoping, prioritizing, and executing multiple projects while meeting quality standards and deadlines.
Manage and maintain a library of multimedia assets (photo, video, etc.), ensuring proper organization, tagging, and accessibility for team members.
Manage institutional accounts with photo and video licensing platforms, including Reuters and Shutterstock, and provide support to users across Brookings.
YouTube Management (35%)
Own the day-to-day management of Brookings’ YouTube channel, including content planning, scheduling, and publishing to ensure consistent and engaging content delivery.
Develop and implement strategies to optimize Brookings’ YouTube for search and discovery, increase subscriber growth, and enhance viewer engagement through data-driven insights and best practices.
Track, analyze, and report on key metrics.
Serve as institutional expert on YouTube.
Communications/Internal Support Strategies (15%)
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to incorporate multimedia into campaigns that promote our research and initiatives.
Collaborate across the Central Comms team and across the Institution to ensure products are tailored to identified audiences to best present Brookings’ scholars and work to stakeholders.
Support the development and dissemination of governance, training, and best practices materials relating to our visual brand and multimedia standards.
Stay up to date and advise leadership on latest web, design, and social media tools and trends.
Actively contribute to internal team and/or organizational work that shapes our systems and our culture.
Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Multimedia Design, Digital Media, or a related field is required, with an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in graphic design, video production, photography, and multimedia content creation. Experience working in a fast-paced environment is highly desirable, along with demonstrated experience within a broader communications office. Knowledge of website development, social media, and video production is essential, and experience in a public policy setting is strongly preferred. Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
Candidates must have an excellent understanding of visual design principles, including visual storytelling and user experience, with strong attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, shoot, and edit engaging video content for various platforms, including expertise in creating motion graphics and animations, is essential. Strong design skills in creating compelling, on-brand visual materials for both digital and print are required, along with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and video editing software (Premiere Pro, After Effects). Proficiency in photography, including planning, shooting, and editing high-quality photographs, and experience in managing and maintaining a library of photographic assets, is required. Experience in developing interactive media elements, such as infographics and maps, is also required.
Expertise in YouTube management and optimization is essential. Candidates should have a basic understanding of HTML and WordPress, with expertise preferred, as well as in-depth knowledge of social media platforms and their best practices. The ability to track, analyze, and report key metrics is essential.
Candidates must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages and deliverables to diverse audiences. They should be highly organized and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously, meeting quality standards and deadlines. A collaborative mindset with experience working across teams to achieve common objectives is essential, along with strong interpersonal skills, discretion, poise, and mature judgment. Candidates should be up-to-date with the latest web, design, and social media tools and trends.
