The Instructional Designer I (Temporary) position provides expertise to faculty, staff and subject matter experts in course design and creation, incorporating best practices in pedagogy, methodology, use of digital content, and course outcomes.
This position will be dedicated to microcredential development divided between three projects:Advancing the Industry with Microcredentials (AIM) GrantRECI-CODES GrantConstruction Engineering Management Microcredentials
Remote or hybrid work arrangements may be an option subject to Clarkson University rules, regulations, and policies.
Your primary residence must in one of the following states to work remotely:
Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, Missouri, Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
● Assist and support faculty, staff, and subject matter experts in designing, revising, implementing, and assessing instructional strategies, course materials, assessment techniques, and appropriate integration of instructional technologies that engage students and promote increased retention and student success● Designs and produces learning materials in a variety of formats including: print, graphics, audio, video, animation and multimedia to support teaching, learning, and University information needs● Provides assistance to faculty in technology tools and methods, use of instructional software and effective uses of multimedia● Designs, develops, and delivers workshops and training to faculty and staff in the use of instructional technologies and educational best practices● Maintains knowledge of current trends in instructional methods and theory, assessment techniques, and teaching tools and technologies.● Helps to test and implement use of emerging learning technologies
Education:
Minimal Qualifications: A master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology or related discipline, Quality Matters Peer Reviewer Certification
Preferred Qualification:
A PhD or other terminal degree in Instructional Design, Learning Experience Design, or related.
Experience:
Minimal Experience: At least three years of progressive, related experience in a higher education environment, experience developing microcredentials for both higher education audiences and the general public
Preferred Experience: Experience developing microcredentials for the construction and/or manufacturing industry
● Thorough knowledge of instructional design theory and practice required● Experience designing and implementing assessment of student learning● Passion for learning and employing technology to advance teaching, learning, and scholarship● Experience with several of the following: LMS administration and support; instruction and instructional design; media production and post-production; accessibility and assistive technology; distance and hybrid learning; and web development technologies.● Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly and effectively communicate technical information● Ability to build rapport with diverse campus constituencies● Strong customer service skills with a true desire to help students and fellow employees● Broad-based experience working in information technology● Excellent critical thinking skills● Familiarity with ethical and legal guidelines that govern online education● Teaching experience in higher education a plus
