Job Description

  • Perform large-scale (up to 10 L) expression of recombinant proteins and virus-like particles (VLPs) by transient transfection of suspension mammalian cells across multiple expression systems, including shake flask and WAVE bioreactor technology
  • Optimize expression conditions for challenging proteins, including multimeric proteins, to improve yield and quality
  • Maintain and expand mammalian cell lines, ensuring proper cell density, viability, and sterility
  • Operate and maintain cell culture analyzers, including the BioProfile FLEX analyzer, to monitor cell culture health and productivity
  • Conduct protein characterization using techniques such as SDS-PAGE, Western blot analysis, and UV-VIS spectroscopy
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to protein expression, cell culture, and equipment operation
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments, protocols, and results under company policies and regulatory requirements
  • Work closely with a lead scientist in the expression group and coordinate with the protein purification and characterization groups in the facility
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of new protein expression protocols and techniques
  • Participate in team meetings and present findings to colleagues and management
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and regulations in the laboratory environment
  • Assist in training junior team members on protein expression techniques and equipment usage

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MS in biology, biochemistry or related scientific field. Or BS in biology, biochemistry or related scientific field with 2 or more years of relevant post-graduation work experience in a scientific setting, with preference given to industrial experience
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with large-scale (up to 10L) suspension mammalian cell cultures and bioreactor technology, including WAVE bioreactor systems
  • Proficiency in cell culture techniques, including sterile aseptic technique, cell passaging, counting, and using cell culture analyzers (e.g., BioProfile FLEX analyzer)
  • Experience with recombinant protein expression by transient transfection of mammalian cells, including optimization for challenging proteins
  • Expertise in protein characterization techniques such as SDS-PAGE, Western blot analysis, and UV-VIS spectroscopy

Additional Information

This position is Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with overtime as needed and the potential for some off shift hours as dependent on project. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of West Point, PA are encouraged to apply.
