KIPP Indy Public Schools (KIPP Indy) was founded in 2004 with one class of fifth-grade students and has grown to serve 1,400 students across three schools. Of the students that attend KIPP Indy, 93% qualify for free and reduced lunch, 95% are African American or LatinX, 16% receive special education services, and 15% are designated as Multilingual Learners. As we continue to grow, our mission remains the same: to create joyful, academically excellent schools in which teachers, students, and families are all united around the same goal of preparing students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose —college, career, and beyond— so they can lead fulfilling lives and create a more just world.

Job Description

The Bilingual Teacher Assistant at KIPP Indy Public Schools plays a crucial role in supporting multilingual learners, assisting with both academic and language development. In collaboration with the Lead Teacher and other staff, this position focuses on delivering high-quality, differentiated instruction in English and Spanish to ensure that all students are able to meet their academic and language goals. The Teacher Assistant will work closely with students in small group and one-on-one settings, providing essential language support, classroom management, and fostering student engagement in both languages. The role also includes partnering with families to ensure clear communication and support for students’ progress.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Support: Assist the Lead Teacher in planning and delivering high-quality, differentiated instruction to multilingual learners in English and Spanish. Provide small group and one-on-one support for students who need additional assistance to meet academic and language goals.
  • Language Development: Work closely with students to support English language acquisition and development in both the classroom and individual sessions. Reinforce language skills through targeted instructional strategies in Spanish and English.
  • Student Engagement: Help manage classroom routines, engage students in learning activities, and provide ongoing encouragement to support student success and self-confidence in both English and Spanish.
  • Collaborative Planning: Partner with the classroom Teachers, and other staff to monitor student progress, identify areas of growth, and develop instructional strategies tailored to meet students' needs.
  • Classroom Management: Support the creation and maintenance of a positive, inclusive, and productive classroom environment, ensuring that students are respectful, engaged, and motivated to achieve their academic goals.
  • Communication: Act as a liaison between students, families, and teachers, communicating in Spanish as needed to provide updates on academic progress and social-emotional development.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in Spanish and English: Must be bilingual, with strong proficiency in both English and Spanish to effectively support students’ language development.
  • Education: Minimum of a high school diploma required. A Bachelor’s degree in education, bilingual education, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience working with children in an educational setting. Experience working with multilingual learners is highly preferred.
  • Commitment to Student Success: A strong belief in the potential of all students and a commitment to providing equitable learning opportunities for multilingual learners.
  • Cultural Competence: Ability to connect with and build trust among students and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Additional Information

This is a part-time position, with expected working hours from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The starting salary for this role is $22 per hour.
