Head Coach, Men's Basketball

The head coach of men’s basketball is responsible for the administration of all phases of the men’s basketball program.

The anticipated start date for this position is July 2025.

Core Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Must demonstrate effective teaching and coaching skills, technique and tactics. 
  • Plan, organize and implement effective practices. 
  • Organize and implement effective recruiting strategies. Attract and retain qualified applicants. 
  • Responsible for fiscal management and public relations with parents, alumni and friends of the program. Maintain effective communication with alumni and parents. 
  • Communicate effectively with a diverse constituency of student-athletes, staff, and faculty. 
  • Teach lifetime sports in the Physical Education program. 
  • Mentor student-athletes. 

 

General Responsibilities: 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics, including, but not limited to Event Management and other administrative responsibilities. 
  • Maintain CPR/AED/First Aid Certification. 
  • Knowledge of NESCAC and NCAA regulations. 

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NESCAC and NCAA Division III Philosophy; ability to attract and retain qualified applicants; demonstrated ability to coach basketball at the collegiate, Division III level. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse set of constituencies, including but not limited to prospective and current student-athletes, families, alumni, and faculty and staff of Middlebury. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and must be able to obtain and maintain a Middlebury College driver’s license. 

Experience: 

Previous college coaching experience. 

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • The position requires a considerable amount of time on court during practice and games. 
  • The position requires a considerable amount of travel, for games and recruiting.
