Engineering Manager, Data Tooling

The Data Services department at Mapbox is a crucial org unit responsible for acquiring, processing, and delivering high-quality location-oriented data to enable internal and external Customers who use Mapbox maps and Navigation.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will drive the Data Tooling team, which consists of 8+ software developers, responsible for tools aimed to accelerate data enrichment and data correction pipelines, as well as for various solutions, helpful for Mapbox service development teams.

Mapbox is looking for an experienced Engineering manager with talents in 3 dimensions (leadership, operational excellence and planning), for a trusted partner, looking for the opportunities to deliver the max value for internal customers - Data Services Operations and Mapbox service teams.

You will also

  • Work with leaders to set the Team mission and goals, aligned with the ones of Data Services Operations and Mapbox service teams

  • Have the ability to support and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners through effective and efficient communications and information-sharing.

  • Help the team think differently as we enter a phase of massive scale. You will answer key questions such as: how do we work smarter through better tooling? How do we intelligently introduce automation in the right places at the right time to improve efficiency and quality?

  • Maintain the operational excellence for the supported tools and solutions

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the Team at all levels

  • Make the Team stronger over time, including performance management, hiring and retention processes

  • 3+ years of leadership: you have managed and grown diverse engineering teams

  • Over 5 years of experience in software development, specializing in architecting, designing, developing, maintaining, and operating scalable, high-performance and highly transactional applications

  • Experience building both automation and tooling solutions

  • Application development using cloud technologies

  • Collaborative and communicative; embracing changes over expecting the things carved in stone

  • Focus on bringing value, and building long term partnership

  • Outcome oriented: you focus on timely deliveries that solve the business and customer need

  • Metrics driven: data guides your decisions and informs your strategy to quantitatively improve and solve problems at scale
