The Privacy Engineering & Data Protection (PDPE) Team’s mission is to ensure responsible data use for Netflix by providing confidence that security and privacy risks are managed. They do this by offering specialized support and guidance, empowering teams to make informed privacy decisions, ensuring that privacy considerations are seamlessly integrated into every aspect of our operations, and driving trust and value for Netflix. They also provide visibility and comprehensive insights into Netflix’s data assets to manage data risks and define, build, and promote the adoption of right-sized and right-timed data policies, controls, and capabilities. Lastly, they identify, design, build, and operate efficient Privacy-supporting systems and services that scale as the business grows.
The Director of Privacy and Data Protection oversees Privacy Engineering, Privacy Operations and Data Protection programs for Netflix that ensure compliance with global privacy laws and regulations, safeguard sensitive data, and protect privacy rights. This role is a leader of leaders who facilitates the creation of strong technical direction and strategy from their functions, and who is well versed in cross-functional alignment across a complex set of stakeholders and partners. This role reports to the Senior Director of Security, Privacy & Assurance (CISO) and represents Privacy & Data Protection at the Senior leadership level.
Solid understanding of data privacy and security concepts, including Privacy by Design principles, and applied experience leading privacy engineering projects.
Deep technical expertise in either Privacy or Data Protection and their common engineering solutions.
Strong understanding of global Privacy and Data Protection regulations (e.g. GDPR, CCPA).
Experience building and leading a build-centric privacy and software engineering team and help guide towards the highest leverage solutions.
Ability to develop balanced cross-functional partnerships with key partners and other technical and non-technical teams with a willingness to lean on and delegate work to external teams as needed.
Experience building Privacy or Data Protection programs from the ground up with a level of scrappyness and pragmatism.
Pragmatic risk approach and understanding of risk tradeoffs with business goals.

Creative and strategic approach to solving complex problems.
Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $610,000 - $1,870,000.
