About the Role

Support Engineer is responsible for keeping system and robot uptime of the onsite fleet as high as possible through diagnostics, hands-on troubleshooting, and coordination with operations as well as engineering teams at HQ. You will be part of a team working to perform diagnostics, maintenance, and retrofits on production robots. You will be the first line of support entrusted to guide operations during critical issues  


Responsibilities

- Diagnose issues for Nimble’s fleet of robots

- Read and interpret specifications, diagrams, manuals and other documentation such as standard operating procedures created by engineering and management

- Investigate robot logs for issues with mechanical, electrical, and software systems.

- Work with software, hardware, and robotic engineering teams in order to test and root cause mechanical, electrical, and farm operations issues.

- Develop new standard operating procedures for complex maintenance and diagnostics tasks based on work with technicians and engineers

- Alleviate operational issues with Nimble’s Robotics and Fulfillment software

- Help prioritize hardware and software improvements using a data-driven approach based on downtime and severity

- Provide timely response to operations and maintenance teams to improve system and robot metrics


Requirements

- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment directly maintaining and improving complex equipment, or a minimum of 2 years experience combined with a BS in engineering (industrial, mechanical, electrical) or robotics 

- Hands-on experience with robotics and mechanical systems

- Experience using electrical tools such as multimeters, and oscilloscopes, to diagnose issues.

- Demonstrated excellence with simple scripting languages (Python)

- Strong technical curiosity and debugging skills including reading technical logs, mechanical drawings, and circuit diagrams

- Demonstrated ability to use appropriate tools to physically repair a variety of mechanical equipment including metalworking, soldering, and crimping

- Experience using Linux day-to-day (Ubuntu/Debian preferred)

- Demonstrated excellence in communication and documentation

- Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision 


Additional Requirements

- Regularly required to use hand tools, to reach with hands and arms into tight spaces, and to talk or hear in person or on the telephone or radio

- Hearing is frequently required for equipment operation analysis 

- Required to work and walk at elevated heights, using fall protection equipment.

- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to access necessary equipment.

- Occasionally required to smell, using odors to determine process or equipment problems.

- Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally be required to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.  

- Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

- Ability to work on-call/stand-by, weekends and holidays as needed

- Work location is in a warehouse environment with variable temperatures including cold, heat and humidity

- Exposure to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; manufacturing conditions; heat; risk of electric shock; and vibration
