Library Office Assistant II

Overview

The Finance and Acquisitions Department at Princeton University Library seeks a dependable and energetic individual to receive, unpack, organize, and facilitate the movement of received library materials for further processing. The Library Office Assistant II plays a crucial role in the organization and transit of library material for additional processing by members of Finance and Acquisitions as well as in-person material review by selectors. This role involves receiving material, sorting material for processing, organizing items on carts, scanning materials into a workflow or transit status, labeling material for processing or transit, preparing carts for transport to campus, and packaging material for transport.

 

Responsibilities

  • Unboxing and sorting received materials onto designated carts and placing material and carts into designated areas for processing.
  • Organizing received material according to established workflows by vendor and/or order type, identifying next processing steps based upon vendor, order type, and processing workflow.
  • Assembling, organizing and labeling materials placed onto carts and moving or placing material into designated work areas for additional review or processing.
  • Retrieving and sorting material from PCRP processing areas or review locations and prepare materials for transport. Organizing material being sent from 693 Alexander Road to the designated library space or ReCAP.
  • Scanning and labeling items that have not yet had barcodes or labels applied during previous processing and place items in a workflow or transit status in the library system according to established procedures.
  • Undertaking special projects and/or other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma with 1-3 years of related work experience
  • General knowledge of basic computer operation and accurate keyboarding skills
  • Good communication, organization, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments
  • Ability to regularly lift heavy loads of 40 lbs. and up to 60 lbs. on occasion
  • Ability to perform strenuous and repetitive tasks with care and accuracy

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience working with the processing and transport of library material
  • Barcode and/or document scanner experience preferred
