The Role: Director of Executive Communications:

The Director of Executive Communications is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy, primarily for the CEO but occasionally for other executive team members. Reporting to the SVP of Brand & Corporate Marketing, this role will work closely with the CEO, Chief of Staff, and Chief of Strategy to craft compelling narratives, refine presentation flows, and ensure consistent executive messaging across all platforms.

The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, developing high-impact speeches, presentations, and thought leadership content while ensuring the CEO's voice is represented authentically.

This role requires a blend of storytelling, executive messaging expertise, and strategic communication planning to drive alignment across internal and external audiences.

This position does not require media relations experience but demands exceptional storytelling skills, executive presence, and the ability to distill complex cybersecurity and business topics into clear, engaging narratives.

Key Responsibilities: 

- Executive Positioning & Thought Leadership

- Develop and implement a comprehensive executive communications strategy, ensuring consistent messaging across internal and external channels.

- Work directly with the CEO and Chief of Staff to craft speeches, presentations, and narratives that articulate strategic vision and business objectives.

- Represent the CEO’s voice across all communications, ensuring alignment with Proofpoint’s brand and leadership vision.

Content Development

- Produce high-impact executive messaging, including keynote speeches, internal memos, bylined articles, blog posts, and social media content.

- Translate complex cybersecurity topics into compelling, accessible narratives for diverse audiences.

- Ensure quality and consistency across all executive communications, refining tone and messaging to maximize impact.

Presentation & Event Support:

- Shape and refine executive presentations, ensuring clear messaging, engaging storytelling, and strong visual design.

- Prepare the CEO and executive team for key events, including industry conferences, leadership meetings, and public forums.

- Develop briefing materials, Q&A documents, and event scripts to support executive participation.

Cross-Functional Communications Planning:

- Work closely with the Chief of Staff to align executive messaging with business priorities and corporate initiatives.

- Develop structured communication plans that integrate internal and external messaging, reinforcing company goals and leadership positioning.

- Collaborate with various organization at the company to ensure alignment across all executive communications.

- Advise on crisis communications and reputation management, ensuring executives respond effectively in high-stakes situations.

Qualifications & Experience:

- 15+ years of experience in executive communications, corporate communications, or strategic messaging within a technology or cybersecurity environment.

 - Proven expertise in content development for senior executives, with a portfolio demonstrating clarity and impact.

- Experience working directly with CEOs, senior executives, and cross-functional leadership teams.

- Strong storytelling and editorial skills, with the ability to distill complex topics into clear, engaging content.

 - Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholder expectations.

- Strategic thinker with experience developing and executing executive communication plans for both internal and external audiences.

 - Proficiency in presentation design tools and an understanding of visual storytelling principles to enhance executive messaging.

- Familiarity with cybersecurity, enterprise technology, and industry trends is a plus.

Consistent with Proofpoint values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets as set out below. Pay within these ranges varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate. The range provided may represent a candidate range and may not reflect the full range for an individual tenured employee. This role may be eligible for variable compensation and/or equity. We offer a competitive benefits package, including flexible time off, a comprehensive well-being program with two paid Wellbeing Days and two paid Volunteer Days per year, plus a three-week Work from Anywhere option.

Base Pay Ranges:

SF Bay Area, New York City Metro Area:

Base Pay Range: 194,475.00 - 285,230.00 USD

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington DC Metro, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas, Washington, Virginia, and Alaska:

Base Pay Range: 162,375.00 - 238,150.00 USD

All other cities and states excluding those listed above:

Base Pay Range: 148,425.00 - 217,690.00 USD
