As a key engineer in a small company, you will have a great deal of agency over your work, plenty of opportunity to discover and solve new challenges, and the ability to make large-impact decisions. This role requires a creative problem solver who is curious, passionate, and proactive, eager to add value before it’s requested or identified by others.

Key Position Responsibilities
  • Build designs that will be integrated into future generations of Reach products by creating 3D models and 2D drawings of parts and assemblies
  • Actively contribute to Reach’s hardware team development cycle, from concept proofing to product release including engineering analysis, simulated modeling for thermal and structural problems, design, assembly and validation of your designs
  • Actively work with EE and RF engineers to build necessary fixtures to validate the system and support Reach’s manufacturing effort
  • Drive your own design reviews and interact with suppliers. This includes the creation and maintenance of manufacturing instructions
  • Collaborate with project management and other engineers to plan efforts and establish timelines for projects
  • Support test plan writing and field testing

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree or above in mechanical engineering
  • At least seven (7) years experience in hands on mechanical design using multiple processes and materials
  • At least five (5) years of in depth solid modeling experience, using industry tools to manage complex parts and assemblies
  • Fluent with CAD design (SolidWorks)
  • Experience with thermal design and FEA simulations
  • Experience with rapid prototyping technics (additive manufacturing, CNC)
  • Experience with hardware design processes for manufacturing, from concept to system integration for volumes
  • Experience in sheet metal, machining, and plastic design
  • Familiar with designing fixtures and assemblies for reliability testing and quality control
  • Proficient communicator with strong organizational skills

Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience with ANSYS for FEA simulations and Icepak (for thermal and CFD)
  • Experience with design for FCC or other certifications
  • Experience with RF applications and collaborating with RF / antenna engineers
  • Experience leading engineering teams and successfully bringing high volume electro-mechanical products to mass production
  • Experience working at a start-up or with a small team

Benefits
  • Flexible working hours
  • Unlimited, paid vacation policy
  • High degree of autonomy and work ownership with strong action-to-impact relationship
  • Dental, Vision, and Medical coverage, with HMO, PPO, HDHP options
  • 401k, HSA, FSA

Reach - Who We Are

Reach is a pioneer in a new frontier of technology. Born out of MIT, incubated in YC, and developed in an "office space" that was once the oven of a cookie factory, we are a group of curious, passionate, and creative problem solvers, and we approach our work with vigor and humility.

Much has changed since our cookie factory days, but our core philosophies have remained. Decisions are made quickly, meetings and politics are kept to a minimum, and everyone here does high-visibility work that has considerable influence on our product and company. We have weekly team lunches, quarterly offsite company events, and often spend time together outside of work bicycling, rock climbing, playing music, and hosting happy hours.

We highly value diversity at our company - in not only professional capabilities and experience, but also in personal interests, schools of thought, musical tastes, and walks of life. We prioritize inclusivity, and do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
