About Operations Engineering Division (OED): OED is the central team that supports all Business Unit Design and Development teams, and other organizations including Sales, Marketing, Business Operations, Foundry Operations, and Test. OED provides a platform for managing all process technology and PDK development for both Internal and External Foundry processes. This strong and highly qualified team (mostly MS/PhD) adds strength in developing Test Technology, Foundry Operations, and Yield management. Our world class contributions lead to aggressive NPI strategies and continual cost and gross margin improvement.
The PDK/CAD team: Within OED, the PDK team works with internal and external foundries to develop and deploy high quality PDKs on both mature and advanced nodes. This global, dynamic and fast-paced team interfaces directly with foundries and EDA tool vendors, as well as internally through foundry tech teams, packaging teams and design and layout communities to provide highly integrated, state of the art PDKs and CAD flows/solutions. The PDK/CAD team is a core and essential part of all our design flows from concept to tapeout for every project.
Duties and Responsibilities: Lead and manage a team of dedicated PDK/CAD professionals and ensure continued world class support for design teams using our technologies and processes. Contribute and collaborate with peers to align flows and methods where possible. Establish productive relationships with internal customers and peers and when applicable maintain an effective and efficient team. The role requires strong skills in various aspects of leadership, CAD, EDA Tools, PDK and flow development.
Develop/Maintain, Test, and Deploy foundry PDKs, PDK components, PDK methodologies to various Business units, fulfilling their requirements.
Provide CAD solutions to support design methodologies and any issues raised by design teams. Proactively work with design teams to anticipate their needs.
Ability to handle multiple tasks (at individual and at team level) and changing priorities from internal customers.
Collaborate with colleagues and team members in defining, maintaining, testing and deploying CAD infrastructure, PDKs and PDK components to internal customers.
Lead by example technically by having a strong technical expertise in several areas of PDK/CAD.
Vision is to manage a team of experienced PDK/CAD engineers and ensure continued smooth operation with task delegation as needed.
Support, develop & maintain components & scripts required for internal PDK, CAD and general design community use.
Align with manager’s goals and initiatives to meet agreed-upon objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Be a key part of the interface between design, foundry technology, foundries, EDA vendors and assembly teams to identify and implement project requirements and ensure that issues raised are addressed speedily.
Understand timelines, responsibilities, and priorities for support requests and assigned projects, and take appropriate actions.
Exercise creativity to innovate new processes and procedures to achieve solutions to complex problems quickly.
Work with EDA tool vendors on Renesas’s tool evaluations and any requested enhancements and bug fixes.
Maintain skills to ensure competence to perform assigned responsibilities.
Required Skills
Good knowledge of CMOS fundamentals with background in electrical engineering or semiconductor physics.
Excellent technical ability and knowledge of modern semiconductor technology and design flows, including familiarity with Cadence custom IC Virtuoso platform, both from a frontend (schematic/simulation) and backend (layout/PV/PEX) perspective.
Excellent leadership capability, leading by example with the necessary skills to convey priorities and complex requirements to team members and customers, delegating appropriately and ensuring that actions are completed as scheduled.
Knowledge of foundry PDKs and their internal components: PCELL, CDF, Tech files.
Good communication skills.
Strong support and debugging capability, with good judgement on priorities as they change.
Knowledge of UNIX shell, Shell scripting, programming including Perl or Python.
Ability to work well and collaborate in a team environment, both internally across an internal PDK/CAD team as well as with peers in same and other disciplines.
Additional, Desired Qualifications/Skills
Master’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent degree with 8 years of experience.
Additional programming/scripting/parsing languages, including Cadence Skill.
Additional digital flow/tools knowledge including P&R, synthesis, timing closure, parasitic extraction, timing extraction
Knowledge of EM/IR drop analysis and flows is beneficial.
Good working knowledge of Load Sharing Facility (LSF)
Revision control (DesignSync, Perforce, SOS/Cliosoft or similar)
Jira/Confluence/Sharepoint
