Accessibility Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Accessibility Specialist with expertise in EAA (European Accessibility Act), AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act), and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in both manual and automated accessibility testing, as well as integrating accessibility testing tools into CI/CD pipelines. A relevant certification (e.g., CPACC, WAS, CPWA) is an added advantage.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Accessibility Compliance Audits:
  • Conduct comprehensive audits of websites, applications, and digital content to ensure compliance with EAA, AODA, ADA, and WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA standards.
  • Provide detailed reports highlighting accessibility barriers and actionable remediation steps.

  • Manual Accessibility Testing:
  • Perform manual testing using assistive technologies such as screen readers (e.g., NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver), magnifiers, and keyboard-only navigation.
  • Validate semantic HTML, ARIA roles, focus order, and alternative text for media.

  • Automated Accessibility Testing:
  • Use automated tools like axe, WAVE, Accessibility Insights, or Pa11y to identify accessibility issues.
  • Integrate accessibility testing tools into build pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) for automated checks during development cycles.

  • Code Remediation and Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with development teams to remediate accessibility issues in code.
  • Provide guidance on best practices for HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ARIA implementation.

  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Document testing results, remediation strategies, and compliance status.
  • Create accessibility statements and compliance reports for stakeholders.

  • Design Reviews and Consultations:
  • Work closely with designers to ensure accessible UI/UX design principles are followed.
  • Review prototypes and wireframes for accessibility compliance.

  • User Testing with Assistive Technologies:
  • Coordinate usability testing with users of assistive technologies to validate the real-world accessibility of applications.

  • Training and Advocacy:
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions for development, design, and content teams on accessibility best practices.
  • Advocate for accessibility throughout the product development lifecycle.

  • Stay Updated on Regulations:
  • Monitor and stay current with evolving accessibility standards and legal requirements (e.g., WCAG, EAA, AODA, ADA).
  • Proactively identify changes that could impact digital accessibility compliance.

  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Integrate accessibility considerations into Agile and DevOps workflows for sustainable accessibility.
  • Implement automated accessibility regression testing in CI/CD environments.


Required Skills & Experience:
  • Experience: 3-5 years in accessibility testing, remediation, and compliance.
  • Tools: Proficiency with tools like Axe, WAVE, Accessibility Insights, Lighthouse, or Tenon Sunsetting.
  • Development Skills: Hands-on experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ARIA, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Certifications (Preferred): IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS), or Certified Professional in Web Accessibility (CPWA).
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of EAA, AODA, ADA, and WCAG 2.1 AA compliance guidelines.
