Shuttle Driver Trainer

As part of the Training, Safety and Compliance team, the Driver Trainer will assist in the training and on-boarding of CDL, NON CDL & ADA Drivers at TransWest. Responsibilities include leading safety initiatives and training new drivers, both in the classroom and behind the wheel. The Driver Trainer and Training team will partner with Operations to ensure client’s training and safety needs are being met. The Driver Trainer must hold safety as a core value.

This role is based out of our Seattle (SODO) bus yard.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Arrange and document driver safety training with initial safety orientation, classroom concepts and implementation of safe driving. Ensure additional required safety training is current and complete. Plan, coordinate, and implement new training as required.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and safe workplace practices. Assist with all vehicle related incidents involving TransWest equipment and TransWest employees. Assist in any needed retraining. Actively improve, promote, and monitor driver safety.
  • Instruct trainees on providing excellent client service; greet clients professionally; offer assistance with boarding or de-boarding as appropriate, in accordance with operation policies.
  • Maintain supplies such as schedules or other information for rider use; maintain knowledge of transportation operations; instruct trainees on providing information to riders about transportation options or how to access additional information.
  • Preform road tests as needed
  • Instruct trainees how to complete DOT pre-trips, post trips and inspections as needed. I
  • Instruct trainees on fueling vehicles following company policies and State regulations.
  • Other Duties assigned as needed.

KEY POSITION COMPETENCIES:

  • Must be a reliable team member supported by a strong attendance record.
  • Able to work as a team member and a team leader.
  • Experience in leading and reviewing the work of others.
  • Understanding of DOT/FMCSA regulatory compliance for commercial drivers.
  • Ability to coach, mentor and train assigned staff.
  • Able to drive large vehicles in traffic congested areas.
  • Excellent defensive driving skills.
  • Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Effective writing and documentation skills.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in external environments, inclement weather and stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have an acceptable MVR (Motor Vehicle Record)
  • Must have at least three years of commercial or professional driving experience
  • Must have an understand of DOT rules and guidelines
  • Must pass a pre-employment DOT drug test
  • Able to communicate proficiently in English
  • Able to work independently, yet able to take direction
  • Able to pass a criminal history background check
  • CDL Class A or B with Passenger Endorsement
  • Current/Active DOT Medical Card
  • Pay rate $30 to $32 per hour based on license and experience
  • Annual raises
