Summary

The Building Inspector is a key role, responsible for performing highly technical inspection work for the day-to-day completion of building inspections (Building, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing).The ideal candidate is a reliable, trustworthy individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment where both collaboration and autonomy are valued.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform Structural Building Inspection duties (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing as licensed). Inspect commercial buildings, which are under construction or are being repaired, remodeled or enlarged and is performed during various stages of completion to ensure structural integrity and compliance with building codes/ordinances.
  • Determines whether changes may be required in plans and makes recommendations to contractors, engineers, architects, etc.
  • Performs inspections of foundations, concrete slabs, framing, roofing, and related construction work
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and current inspection records.
  • Exercises tact and courtesy when conducting inspections and dealing with clients.
  • Prepare reports and report data in a complete, timely and understandable fashion and return as required to branch office. Complete daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy
  • Oversee maintenance of company vehicle (take in to shop for routine maintenance including oil changes, tire pressure, fluid levels, etc.)
  • Cellular phones are to be worn at all times and calls are to be returned immediately.
  • Ensure that project requirements are met and compliant with inspection specifications, requirements and company policies or procedures.
  • Attend all department meetings.
  • Drive to various job sites at locations both locally and throughout the State of Florida. Follow all Driving Laws when driving company vehicle.
  • Work varying shift schedules as needed.
  • Must be willing to travel within the state of Florida, if applicable
  • Complete daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy
  • Turn in required paperwork daily.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Must be flexible to changing schedules and hours to support business needs. Overnight and weekends schedules may be necessary to support business needs.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and policies.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Required Qualifications:
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
  • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
  • Must be able to read and interpret plans, blueprints and specifications.
  • Florida Licensed Building Inspector (Commercial Building Ticket required)
  • State of Florida Electrical Inspector License
  • State of Florida Mechanical Inspector License
  • State of Florida Plumbing Inspector License
  • State of Florida Residential Inspector License
  • Experience with mid-rise/high-rise commercial projects (8+ stories preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of Florida Building Codes and local construction regulations
  • Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients.
  • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports.
  • Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in municipal or private building inspections
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills



Physical Demands & Work Environment:
  • Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear; body motions and movements include: bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing 
  • Lifting and/or moving up to thirty-five pounds regularly on average, and up to seventy-five pounds on occasion, with or without reasonable accommodation 
  • This job is located in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather conditions 
  • Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle and can include wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles. 
  • This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud
