Head of Nutrition

Bitewell is seeking a Head of Nutrition to drive forward our vision of a world without diet-related disease. We’re doing this by combining cutting-edge nutrition science with innovative technology, which comes to life in our main product: The FoodHealth Score. The score is our proprietary algorithm giving consumers simple insight into the healthfulness of food. As a leader of the nutrition science team, you will serve as the standard-bearer of nutrition inside and outside of the company. You'll work with our technical teams to help grow our scoring algorithm and related technologies, collaborate with cross-functional teams to shape nutrition-related initiatives, and work with clients and external partners to amplify our voice in the nutrition space.  You’ll also champion scientific rigor throughout the organization and have the opportunity to lead research efforts on the efficacy of our nutrition tech.

What You'll Do

• Guide the development of scientifically sound food and nutrition technology solutions, ensuring alignment with the latest research and regulatory guidelines.

• Translate complex nutrition science into actionable insights and product features by collaborating with data scientists, engineers, product experts and more. 

• Shape and contribute to studies that validate the efficacy of our nutrition tech solutions.

• Lead and coordinate cross-functional initiatives to ensure timely and effective delivery of nutrition-focused projects.

• Serve as a key point of contact for client and brand partners, providing nutrition expertise and ensuring needs are met. 

• Cultivate and maintain relationships with industry stakeholders, including academic, clinical, and industry partners.

• Coach nutritionists, providing training in nutrition science, business practices, and technology applications, while cultivating a mindset of continuous growth.

Who You Are

• Science-Driven: Advanced degree in Nutrition Science, Dietetics, or related field (PhD or MS preferred)

• Consumer Focused: Proven expertise in applying nutrition science in practical, consumer-focused contexts (e.g., food as medicine, dietary personalization).

• Versatile Communicator: You can debate nutrition science with researchers, then explain the same concepts to engineers and consumers with equal clarity

• Project Juggler: Thrives managing multiple priorities in our fast-paced environment

• Intellectually Bold: Not afraid to challenge conventional thinking and propose creative solutions

• Adaptable: Comfortable with the ambiguity that comes with early-stage startups

• Mission-Aligned: Genuinely passionate about improving health outcomes through food

Additional Details

Location: Hybrid - San Francisco

Compensation: Starting at $165,000, with flexibility based on your experience and qualifications. We're committed to bringing on the right person and will adjust compensation accordingly. Total compensation package includes equity & bonus and full benefits package.
