Data Product Manager

Data Product Manager

Bitewell is looking for a Data Product Manager to drive the evolution of our data ecosystem. Data is at the center of everything we do, from our core algorithm, the FoodHealth Score, to the data underlying it, to the data science and machine learning applications that augment it. Reporting to the Head of Product, this role will be critical in defining and executing a data strategy roadmap focused on data cleaning, quality, and AI/ML applications. You’ll be scoping data-related product efforts, working cross-functionally with engineering, data science, nutrition, and commercial teams to ensure our bets are well-defined and aligned with the outcomes we want to achieve.

About Bitewell

Our vision is to create a world without diet-related disease. We're making this happen through our core product: The FoodHealth Score. The score is our proprietary, first-of-its-kind nutrition scoring system that combines cutting-edge science with innovative technology to give consumers insight and transparency into the healthfulness of food. We bring this to market with our partners in food retail, manufacturing, and data, which empowers customers to make healthier choices, merchandisers to stock healthier shelves and brands to make healthier products.

What You'll Do

  • Own and execute the data strategy roadmap, with a focus on data quality, integrity, and AI/ML initiatives.

  • Keep work organized, on pace, and manage tradeoffs

  • Translate ambiguous problems into clear, actionable ideas that drive impact, and scope those ideas into products that technical teams can execute on

  • Develop and maintain metrics and reporting frameworks to measure data quality and effectiveness.

  • Ensure data is well-organized and structured for scalability and usability across teams.

  • Advocate for best practices in data governance, documentation, and compliance.

  • Leverage SQL for data analysis, validation, and decision-making.

  • Stay ahead of industry trends, particularly in AI/ML applications in data management.

  • Manage relationships with data vendors, ensuring data accuracy, compliance, and seamless integration.

Who You Are

  • Strong data literacy: You understand how data is structured, processed, and used to drive decisions. You're experienced in data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI, Metabase) And are comfortable working with relational databases and writing SQL queries for data exploration and validation.

  • Creative problem solver: You can think outside the box to tackle complex challenges, and you  find solutions even when things aren’t well-defined.

  • Grit and resilience: You’re comfortable with the pace and ambiguity of an early stage startup and can go from the big picture to the nitty-gritty and back again.

  • Highly organized: You can manage multiple initiatives, prioritize effectively, and ensure data processes are structured and scalable.

  • Exceptional communicator and collaborator: You translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights across any number of teams

  • Fast learner: You’ll be thrown deep into the world of nutrition, and you’ll not only need to understand that but also need to stay on top of developments in the quickly evolving space of AI/ML

Bonus points if you have

  • Experience in food, nutrition, or digital supply chains

  • Experience managing data vendors and evaluating external data sources for quality and reliability.

  • Experience with data lakes, data warehouses, and ETL/ELT workflows (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, dbt, Airflow).

  • Familiarity with Python

  • Familiarity with marketing and sales data flows. While this role has nutrition at the core, our data needs will eventually grow and there’s opportunity for this role to help shape those.
