Cloud Engineer

Job Summary:

The Cloud Architect (Level 3) will serve as a key contributor to the Engineering Future Operations team within the Secure Cloud Computing Architecture (SCCA) Program Management Office (PMO) at DISA. This position requires deep expertise in cloud architectures and service offerings across multiple Cloud Service Providers (CSPs), with a focus on driving innovation, efficiency, and mission alignment in support of DoD objectives.

 

*This position is contingent upon contract award*

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate Cloud Service Provider (CSP) documentation and advise the government on technical artifact acceptability. 
  • Track and report commercial parity exceptions to support SCCA PMO transparency and alignment. 
  • Assess CSP change/release notifications for operational impact and provide mitigation strategies. 
  • Design cloud infrastructure to support applications with scalability, automation, performance, and availability as priorities. 
  • Advise mission owners on CSO adoption aligned with specific DoD use cases. 
  • Coordinate with CSPs weekly on cloud adoption pipeline planning and issue resolution. 
  • Respond to technical inquiries from CSPs regarding DoD configuration, policy, and controls. 
  • Facilitate and attend multi-cloud technical exchange meetings with stakeholders. 
  • Support development of DoD CSO demand tracking tools and lists for working groups. 
  • Ensure compliance by integrating with Cyber PMO during engineering of cloud solutions. 
  • Support DISA with circuit connections, Cloud Access Point (CAP) onboarding, and technical input on DoD Provisional Authorizations (PA). 
  • Participate in system testing for tactical edge devices and emerging technologies. 
  • Provide Tier 3 support, including in-depth troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and collaboration with IT and third-party providers. 
  • Contribute to the documentation of knowledge bases, SOPs, and best practices. 
  • Identify recurring technical issues and propose continuous improvement solutions. 
  • Implement prescribed solutions for various deployment models (Private, Public, Community and Hybrid) and delivery models including Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). 
  • Other duties as assigned.  

Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience):

  • Active Secret clearance required!
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Certifications Required:
    • Information Assurance Management (IAM) Level III certification, meeting DoD 8140/8570 compliance.

  • At least 10 years of recent relevant experience, including 5+ years in cloud engineering roles.
  • Excellent oral and written communication with the ability to convey complex cloud solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders. 

  • Strong knowledge of DoD cloud security policies and infrastructure compliance requirements.

  • Proven track record in cloud architecture, implementation, and operational troubleshooting.

  • Experience supporting large-scale IT environments within the defense or federal space.

  • Ability to document procedures and deliver artifacts including strategic planning materials, installation procedures, and technical reports.
