Job Description

EAG Laboratories is seeking a Scientist to join our SIMS group. This is a great opportunity to be trained and gain experience using Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry to conduct analytical testing of semiconductors and other materials.

In this role, you will analyze and test new and existing materials to identify their properties and characteristics for the development or improvement of products. You will also:

  • Work independently to perform the full range of analytical work, including complex tasks. 
  • Ensure instruments are working to their optimum performance and perform maintenance/optimization as necessary.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Apply standard and non-standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out relatively complex SIMS analytical work to determine the composition, properties, and/or structure of materials. 
  • Maintains specified records of test data.
  • Prepare reports on analytical results for customers, including interpretation of results.
  • Evaluate customer requests, determine testing requirements, and prepare instruments for analytical work.

Work Schedule: Mon to Fri, 8am-5pm or 3pm-11pm

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • PhD degree in either in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or Engineering with experience in materials characterization and surface analysis techniques and equipment. OR:
    • MS degree in either in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or Engineering with 3+ years experience in materials characterization and surface analysis techniques and equipment 
    • BS degree in either in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or Engineering with 5+ years of industry experience in materials characterization and surface analysis techniques and equipment. 
  • Must have experience in materials characterization and Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy (SIMS) technique.
  • Knowledge of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Auger spectroscopy, RBS, AFM, XRD, and FT-IR.

 Job Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

  • Familiar with relevant quality system documents and complies with all system requirements.
  • Strong analysis and judgment skills.
  • Computer literate, high level of accuracy and detail oriented. 
  • Good organizational skills and able to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

This position works with companies that deal with defense-related activities and is subject to ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations). All accepted applicants must be U.S. Persons as defined by ITAR:

  1. U.S. Citizen
  2. U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. “Green Card Holder”)
  3. Political Asylee or Refugee

 

Physical Requirements:

  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office or laboratory to access file cabinets, machinery, equipment etc.
  • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer or lab equipment for extended periods of time (4 or more hours).
  • Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other lab equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead.   
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time. 
  • Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting.
  • Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with visitors, ability to complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity quota.

Additional Information

Compensation Range: $120,000 - $130,000. (Salary is commensurate with experience and degree of technical expertise.)
