Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is passionate about providing exceptional health care to all, especially underserved communities with limited health care options. Founded by a Latina grandmother/community advocate over 50 years ago in Barrio Logan, FHCSD has grown into one of the largest community health systems in the country. With over 90 sites, over 227,000 patients, and over 1.1 million healthcare visits last year, we provide a wide variety of health care and outreach services to a very diverse patient population. Job Roles

  • Strong leadership skills; provides guidance and support to development staff; sets performance goals; and mentors staff to raise performance levels and increase fundraising year over year.
  • Actively works with senior staff to develop a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate, foundation, government grants and others.
  • Working through a team of grant writers responsible for development and execution of all proposals.
  • Builds a diversified funding base with an emphasis on expanding annual and major gift opportunities.
  • Actively works to build a donor base.
  • Develops a long-term relationship-management approach to all funders.
  • Develops a robust internal research arm to well-position organization to respond to future fundraising trends and organizational needs. Effective at overseeing daily organizational operations.
  • Develops and articulates clear individual and team goals based on a sound annual development and communications plan so each team member understands their role in the overall effort.
  • Develop a system to monitor all donor information; report statistical analysis to senior leaders.
  • Develops a schedule of communications, tailored to interests and past support of organization.
  • Participates in and oversees regular events through the activities of the event/fundraising team.
  • Through networking, develops strong access/influence skills.
  • Cultivates a strong volunteer network.

Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations

  • Bachelor's degree required, master’s preferred.
  • 8-10 years’ experience working in Development and Grants
  • 5+ years’ experience leading events and developing solicitation campaigns.

Experience/Specialized skills

  • Demonstrated experience in cultivating and expanding cultivated donors and building relationships over time.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills; excellent knowledge of platforms and automation to enhance the donor experience, research and tracking efforts.
  • Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives.
  • Creative
  • Ability to easily engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside of the organization.
  • High energy and passion for the organization’s mission is essential.
  • Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent donor relations skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable speaking to large or small groups
  • A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time.
  • 8-10-plus years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization with demonstrated success in a development function (grants, direct solicitation, events, donor communications, minor/major gifts)

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base range for this position, exclusive of fringe benefits.

$160,000- $225,000

If you are hired at Family Health Centers of San Diego, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, jurisdictional requirements, skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to these factors – we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is what we reasonably expect to pay for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth.
