VP of Sales - Automation Engineering (Suburb of Chicago; $200k all in compensation)

Fulton River Partners is working with a client in the automation engineering space. We're excited to be launching a search for a VP of Sales (Leader of all sales) - a hunter who is responsible for organizing and supporting all aspects of the corporate business development and the go to market strategy GTM).


This includes, but not limited to leading sales and client-relationship management (relationship building with mainly new accounts, with some involvement of current business), tracking new markets, and emerging trends, recommending new products and services, proposing, and developing new strategic partnerships.


The BD team is small - this is your chance to come in and take a massive amount of ownership and run with it. We are looking for someone that has substantial relationships and able to pick up and run on day one. Not asking for someone to come in an immediately have orders, but rather, someone that knows who/where to call on and start to build relationships quickly under my client's name.


About The Role:
  • Senior sales role responsible for hunting and finding new customers.
  • Must have experience selling in to the general industrials and related sectors.
  • Develop and continually improve sales, systems, and processes to support the success of the sales function
  • Help large and small businesses, as well as individual designers, be more successful by advising on design/DFM and manufacturability.
  • Incredible opportunity to grow commissions from day 1 which will be recurring for years to come.
  • Strategic ability to cultivate deep relationships with many new customers, and handle building relationships with little hand-holding.
  • Address technical needs, questions, and concerns regarding product creation
  • Create specific strategies and tactics to meet growth objectives and execute against the plans


About You:
  • Extensive experience with both prospecting (phone, email, etc) as well as experience with outside sales development / hunting.
  • Looking for someone that can find/grow/develop new commercial opportunities and has an entrepreneurial spirit. Someone not afraid of a small business (company run like a start-up even though it has been around for a number of years)
  • Continually brainstorm with team members on creative ways to establish new partnerships
  • Experience in industrial components, metal fabricated parts, manufacturing sales, and/or similar field.
  • Extremely comfortable with Sales Navigator or other CRM software.
  • BS preferred in Engineering, Business, Finance, Supply Chain or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in either contract manufacturing, automation engineering, or manufacturing operations, or a related field with focus on sales, business development, etc.
  • Strong understanding of the current automation engineering landscape.
  • Willing and able to perform responsibilities of a senior supply chain analyst (digest large data sets, develop forecasts, variance analysis, summarize and provide actionable insights based of data).
  • Intermediate to expert level of experience in Excel.


$150,000 - $175,000 a year
Base salary is $150k to $175k depending on experience.
Commission expectations based on reasonable revenue goals year 1 are at minimum $80,000 to $100,000.

Total OTE: >$225,000, with no cap on commissions. This number will increase substantially over time as new markets are entered and your client book of business increases.
