OPPORTUNITY
The Advocacy & Community Engagement Manager has a critical role in supporting Green Dot’s mission to prepare students for college, leadership, and life. The Advocacy & Community Engagement Manager will advance the mission of Green Dot Public Schools through strategic advocacy, community engagement, and policy reform initiatives. This role is crucial in developing relationships with community leaders, elected officials, parents and other stakeholders to ensure access to high-quality education for all students. This role requires a passion for social impact, a deep understanding of advocacy processes, and the ability to mobilize parents through grassroots organizing.

The Advocacy & Community Engagement Manager will be responsible for meaningful engagement with community-based organizations, elected officials and influential community leaders in support of Green Dot. This position is part of the Advocacy & Community Engagement Team and reports to the Director of Advocacy & Community Engagement. This is a role serving as part of Green Dot California’s central office team, primarily based in Los Angeles.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Support Advocacy Campaigns:
> Assist in the planning, development, and execution of advocacy campaigns aimed at supporting charter schools and broader education reform.
> Identify parent and student advocates for engagement opportunities

Community Engagement and Outreach:
> Provide support in organizing community meetings, town halls, and public forums to raise awareness about charter schools and education reform.
> Engage with parents, students, and community members to gather feedback, answer questions, and ensure their involvement in advocacy initiatives.
> Assist in distributing educational materials and resources to families, schools, and community groups about the benefits of charter schools and how to get involved in policy efforts.

Coalition Support:
> Support the building and maintenance of relationships with local organizations, parent groups, and other stakeholders involved in education reform.
> Coordinate logistics for coalition meetings, events, and joint initiatives with partner organizations and advocates.
> Help track coalition activities and ensure that communication flows smoothly between partners.

Content Creation and Communication:
> Assist in creating content for social media, newsletters, and other communications to raise awareness about advocacy campaigns and community programs.
> Help draft emails, press releases, and other written communications that promote the mission of charter schools and the organization's policy priorities.
> Support the team in preparing materials for media outreach, including fact sheets, backgrounders, and talking points.

Event Coordination and Support:
> Assist in organizing events and advocacy activities, such as rallies, legislative meetings, and public demonstrations to advocate for charter school policies.
> Help with logistics, event promotion, and volunteer coordination for public events that engage the community and policymakers.

Data Collection and Reporting:
> Collect and organize data related to advocacy efforts, community feedback, and outreach activities.
> Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of advocacy campaigns by tracking progress and helping to compile reports for internal and external stakeholders.

General Administrative Support:
> Provide administrative support to the advocacy and community engagement team, including managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and maintaining project files.
> Help prepare presentations, materials, and reports for meetings with stakeholders, lawmakers, and community leaders.

Perform other duties as identified in order to meet team goals

QUALIFICATIONS
As an ideal candidate, you:

> have a bachelor’s degree in Education, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field.
> have 5+ years of experience in advocacy, community organizing, public policy, or education reform (internships or volunteer work in education-related fields can be considered).
> have a strong understanding of charter schools, public education policy, and key issues related to education reform.
> possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and clearly convey ideas.
> possess strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
> are able to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team. > have a passion for educational equity and a commitment to improving public education, particularly for underserved communities.
> will be to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer.

COMPENSATION
The starting salary range for this role is $90,000-$100,000. To allow for salary progression over time, offers at the top of the range are rare. Individual education and experience will be considered when issuing offers.

> 15 days of paid time off during years 1-3 of service (20 days during years 4-6 and 25 days beyond 6 years of service)
> An additional 15 days (minimum) of paid time off each year for our Winter and Spring breaks* (which include the Christmas and New Year’s holidays), as well as an additional 10 annual paid holidays (MLK Day, President’s Day, Cesar Chavez Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th, Labor Day and Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and Day after Thanksgiving)
3-5 days of paid bereavement leave (if needed)

*May be adjusted annually
