We’re looking for a Staff Developer to join our team for a role to work remotely based in Canada. Reporting to David Kormushoff, VP Technology, you’ll be joining a high-performing, fast-moving AI team that’s already delivering real business impact. KOHO’s internal AI platform is in production and powering multiple use cases today — your mission will be to accelerate and scale what’s already working by bringing deep technical expertise and a passion for innovation. This is a chance to build on an already impressive foundation and push the boundaries of what’s possible with AI.
• Drive AI-Powered Solutions: Develop, train, and deploy generative AI workflows and autonomous agents to automate business processes and enhance KOHO’s products. You’ll work with large language models and cutting-edge AI tools to solve complex problems in new, creative ways.
• Full-Stack Innovation: Design and implement end-to-end solutions that span frontend, backend, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure. You’ll ensure AI features integrate smoothly across the tech stack – from user-facing interfaces to backend services and data systems – delivering a seamless experience.
• Lead Technical Strategy: Act as a technical visionary for KOHO’s AI platform expansion. You’ll conduct proofs-of-concept with emerging technologies, evaluate new tools and frameworks, and make data-driven recommendations to push KOHO’s platform to the next level of innovation.
• Collaborate and Influence: Work closely with cross-functional teams (Data Science, Product, Security, and others) to embed AI capabilities into various products and services. You’ll share expertise, mentor engineers across teams on best practices for AI integration, and influence key technical decisions without formal authority.
• Ensure Scalability and Reliability: Own the performance, scalability, and reliability of the AI systems you build. You’ll establish high standards for code quality, monitoring, and infrastructure – e.g. setting up robust CI/CD pipelines and using Infrastructure-as-Code – to ensure that our AI-driven services run efficiently and securely at scale.
• Experienced Technologist: You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). You bring 7+ years of experience in software engineering or data engineering, with a track record of building reliable, scalable systems in production.
• AI & Automation Expert: You have hands-on experience developing and deploying AI/ML solutions – ideally including generative AI or LLM-based systems – in real-world products. You excel at using technology to automate business workflows and have probably built or integrated AI-driven agents or decisioning systems that made processes faster or smarter.
• Full-Stack Proficiency: You can work across the stack. Whether it’s developing a web frontend feature, crafting a robust backend service, optimizing a data pipeline, or configuring cloud infrastructure, you’re comfortable diving in. (Experience with AWS cloud services and Terraform for infrastructure-as-code is a strong plus.)
• Innovative & Adaptable: You stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, especially in AI. More importantly, you learn new domains quickly and adapt to new tools or frameworks as needed. For you, adaptability and continuous learning are more important than expertise in any one specific tech stack.
• Leadership Without Title: You possess excellent communication and collaboration skills. You can influence and inspire other engineers and stakeholders through knowledge-sharing, technical demos, and well-reasoned proposals. You’re able to drive consensus on technical decisions and guide projects to success, all without needing formal managerial authority.
• Self-Starter & Problem Solver: You are a self-directed individual who takes initiative. Faced with an ambitious goal, you break down problems, research solutions, and persistently drive towards outcomes. You thrive in environments with a high degree of autonomy and are not afraid to get your hands dirty in the code to make things happen.
