Essential Functions and Responsibilities
1. Conducts medical simulation activities under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Simulation and faculty educators, including: Transforms medical case scenarios into realistic simulated learning environments using high fidelity and low fidelity simulations, as well as, human action simulating medical patients and conditions. Integrates audio and video technology into simulation learning activities – including the use of high-fidelity simulations. Provides routine simulator, computer, and audio/video equipment maintenance and the set-up, programming, operation and monitoring of simulation software, computers, and simulators (computerized manikins and task trainers). Plans and coordinates simulation activities together with faculty. Assists in ensuring availability of technologies – including programming, props, and wardrobe. Technical support – includes testing, cleaning, troubleshooting, and minor repairs. Identifies the need for replacements, interfaces with vendors to solve simulator and equipment problems, facilitates new purchases and servicing of existing equipment, and maintains maintenance and repair records and activities.
2. As necessary, trains and assists faculty educators on the operation of all equipment used in simulation.
3. May assist post-simulation activity debriefing sessions by providing feedback to learners.
4. Assists in the training and directing of standardized patients.
5. Develops and refines technical skills expertise. Identifies opportunities for improvement.
6. Maintains the operational integrity of the Simulation Center. Assists in scheduling of faculty, staff, and standardized patients.
7. Maintains the Simulation Center as a clean, safe, and optimal learning environment. Maintains proficiency in existing and emerging technologies, training activities, maintenance, and simulation activities. Monitors stock levels and maintains storage areas to a high standard.
8. Assists with preparation, setup, and cleanup for labs, including PCM labs.
9. Makes recommendations for equipment and supply purchase.
10. Other duties as requested and/or assigned.
Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies
1. High school degree or GED required.
2. Bachelor’s degree or Computer Technical Certification preferred.
3. Demonstrated experience working with healthcare simulation, standardized patients, and OSCEs.
4. Proficiency with the operation and maintenance of simulation high-fidelity manikins, simulation software, and AV.
5. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications and Canvas.
6. Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously of a routine and complex nature.
7. Certification as a Certified Healthcare Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) preferred.
8. Knowledge of medical terminology.
9. Strong ability to work with and learn a variety of computer systems.
10. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
11. Demonstrated time management skills and organizational skills.
12. Ability to problem-solve.
