The Role: Head of Technology (Ecom)

Responsibilities

Innovation in eCommerce

  • Develop and execute the technical roadmap for our e-commerce platform, ensuring alignment with business objectives and market trends.
  • Design, build, and deploy a robust headless Shopify solution tailored to business goals and customer needs.
  • Ensure platform scalability, performance, and reliability through proper architecture and infrastructure decisions.
  • Lead architectural decisions for the e-commerce ecosystem, including front-end frameworks, backend services, and third-party integrations.
  • Drive innovation in building technology advanced digital shopping experiences through emerging technologies and best practice focusing on mobile first experiences – this will include dynamic pricing, pre-order and bundling as well as automation, personalization and video commerce.
  • Lead and implement the end-to-end web development, including frontend UI/UX, backend services, and API integrations.
  • Liaise with Creative, Brand, Marketing, UX, Product Development, Customer Service, Operations, and third parties to develop new features and functionality on the site.
  • Project manage and scope all technical requirements for the website including eCommerce feature requests, bug reporting, updating the CMS.
  • Ensure seamless integration with third party applications, tools and new platforms to support marketing, CRM, analytics etc.
  • Technology trend monitoring and feedbacking what trailblazer brands are investing in to unlock growth.

Website Maintenance

  • Act as the single point of contact for the day-to-day management of the site.
  • Oversee the front-end and back-end infrastructure including 3rd party apps, security, speed, shipping, systems and payment gateways.
  • Oversee, update and manage all third party data feeds.
  • Prioritize workflows based on business needs including themes, discounts, products, analytics, order issues etc.
  • Ability to resolve any small coding issues as they arise and responsible for identifying and resolving any web errors and investigating/ troubleshooting.
  • Manage relationship with Shopify Plus team including growth, merchant and product support.
  • Responsible for all legal aspects of the website including Cookie classification and tracking, T&C's, Privacy Policies etc and all onsite content.
  • Responsible for all DNS records ensuring these are managed and updated accordingly.
  • Responsible for the overall website conversion rate.
  • Responsible for analyzing on site website data to define trends and insights to communicate back to the business to inform future decisions.
  • 7+ years in e-commerce technology leadership roles, preferably in high-growth, DTC, or apparel companies.
  • Proven experience in building and deploying headless Shopify solutions.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and microservices architecture.
  • Track record of successful large-scale e-commerce implementations.
  • Experience with headless commerce architectures.
  • Strong understanding of e-commerce best practices, SEO, and web performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with AI/ ML driven solutions and their applications in e-commerce.
  • Certifications in relevant technologies or project management.

Technical Skills

  • Ecommerce: Headless Shopify, custom built solutions.
  • Frontend: React, Vue.js, Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Backend: Node.js, Python, Java, .NET.
  • Database: SQL, NoSQL, Redis.
  • Cloud: AWS/Azure/GCP, Docker, Kubernetes.
  • E-commerce: Payment gateways, inventory systems, OMS.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics, Big Data tools.
  • Security:OWASP, PCI DSS.
