Engineering Technician

9 years ago, Pre-Switch, invented and created embedded AI software and tools that improve power inverter efficiency in applications such as EVs, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and wind turbines. Today we are supporting our technology in leading EV companies and large budget race teams.

We are seeking a versatile Electronic Technician to join our team. Their job is to assist us in implementing our technology into customer applications and to ready new protype designs. The ideal candidate should be knowledge of power electronics, have soldering and mechanical assembly skills, be able to operate a CNC machine and use a 3D printer. The knowledge and ability to make minor design modifications using Fusion360 and work with Altium Designer are a plus. A can-do attitude with a naturally curiosity and desire to understand new technologies would be accepted as an alternative to unfamiliar skills.

This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can safely work with high voltages (up to 1000V). You will collaborate with engineers and other technical staff to troubleshoot issues, optimize electronic performance, and contribute to the ongoing development of advanced power conversion technologies. You will learn doing work on projects that push the boundaries of contemporary power conversion and enhance your skills in a supportive environment. Please note that Pre-Switch is not willing to relocate candidates for this position and the position requires 100% in office participation.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and test electronic subsystems and mechanical cooling systems according to specifications.
  • Troubleshoot electronic malfunctions and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineers to improve product designs and efficiency.
  • Use the company CNC and 3D printers to build mechanical components needed in small production prototypes.
  • Run the company Dynamometer for comparison of electric motor efficiencies.
  • Purchase prototype quantities from electrical and mechanical suppliers.
  • Optional: Make mechanical modifications using Fusion360 cloud-based software.
  • Strong assembly skills needed to hand build electrical circuits and build simple mechanical systems.
  • Proven experience as an electronic technician with an aptitude to learn
  • Strong understanding of electronic components, circuitry, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Familiarity with testing and diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members.
  • Must be local to San Jose California area and in the USA. Not willing to move candidates.

Salary ranges from $80,000 - 130,000, depending on experience, 3 weeks of paid vacation in addition to 6 paid public holidays, participation in the company stock option plan.
