The successful candidate will work directly with T-Mobile’s Intellectual Property Team providing legal support T-Mobile’s Standards Team. This lawyer will play a critical role in discovering and protecting T-Mobile Intellectual Property with a specific focus on technology that is standards essential in the evolving telecommunications market.What You’ll Do In Your Role.• General Intellectual Property Support: Be part of a team that builds, protects, and maintains T-Mobile’s intellectual property assets, including advising the business, supervising outside counsel work, answering questions, and drafting a variety of documents related to intellectual property.• Collaboration with T-Mobile Standards Team: Engage with engineers and staff of the T-Mobile’s Standards Team to stay abreast of the latest developments in wireless communication standards and activities of the Standards Team to identify patenting opportunities that align with existing and future developments in these standards.• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with R&D, engineering, and product teams within T-Mobile to identify potential standards relevant inventions and pursue the development and protection of such inventions with the assistance of T-Mobile’s Standard Team.• Patent Prosecution and Standardization: Develop and implement strategies to build upon a robust and growing portfolio of IP assets, and direct and manage the preparation, filing, and prosecution of patent and Standard Essential Patent (SEP) applications in the U.S. and internationally with the assistance of outside counsel.• Standardization Legal Analysis and Advice: Provide legal analysis and guidance on issues related to relevant standards, including the analysis and claim charting of patent claims to existing standards and new developments in standards, as well analyze infringement, validity, and enforceability.• Compliance and Risk Management: Working with a team of legal professionals, develop strategy and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and/or rules pertaining to standardization procurement, maintenance, and monetization, as well as assess and manage risks associated with these activities.• Strategic Portfolio Management: Support the development and execution of business plans and strategies to achieve T-Mobile’s business objectives, including supporting license negotiations, drafting, and communicating with T-Mobile’s leadership and other stakeholders on issues pertaining to the portfolio.The Experience You’ll Bring.• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a technical or Engineering field. Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.• Experience: Minimum of 7 years’ experience in patent law, with experience in patent preparation and prosecution and standards essential patents. Experience with patent licensing and patent pool licensing also is a plus.• Licenses: Admission to a state bar within the United States and registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).• Knowledge: In-depth understanding of wireless and telecommunications technology, working knowledge of wireless communication standards, including but not limited to standards promulgated by 3GPP, GSMA, IEEE (Wi-Fi), and ETSI, and working knowledge of laws and regulations affecting standardization and standard essential patents.• Skills: Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
