Job Summary

Business Intelligence Analytics Consultant is a strategic thought-leader who is responsible for identifying strategic or tactical insights that directly influence organizational goals, strategies, plans and results. A key component of the role is to proactively work with senior business leaders to suggest or determine topical areas and hypothesis that need to be evaluated. This role is instrumental in providing insights to corporate leaders to make fact-based decisions. The role must partner, train, mentor, and provide work direction to other BI Analysts across the organization as necessary.

This role will be a part of Finance & Actuarial Division’s local Data Enablement Product Team - F&A Portfolio.

This BI Analyst Consultant role will be part of a local data enablement team (comprised of business intelligence analysts and data engineers) that will partner directly with our Finance & Actuarial Division analysts and leaders to assist the data engineers in providing tailored solutions that positively impact business outcomes.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proactively defines specific hypothesis/questions to evaluate and analyze based on Thrivent's strategies and goals.
  • Lead large / highly complex projects and train, mentor, and provide work direction to other BI Analysts.
  • Collaborates with senior leaders and business process owners to define specific hypothesis/questions and develops plans to deliver actionable insight.
  • Conducts highly complex SQL queries and works with other data extraction, reporting and analytic tools to validate and/or develop analysis and reporting to provide actionable insight.
  • Performs investigations to identify, acquire, enhance, and/or develop new data sources, both internal and external, which will enhance the enterprise BI environment.
  • Identify new ongoing data needs and requirements and champion the establishment of new systems and data in partnership with IT and appropriate business areas.
  • Performs highly complex modeling, data mining and analysis projects that inform and support corporate stakeholders. Evaluate/model data utilizing accepted advanced statistical methods.
  • Provides clear, concise, and proactive communication supported by actionable insights with senior leadership.
  • Work with a diverse business community to document as-is and to-be business processes.

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in economics, quantitative business analysis, applied mathematics, statistics, management information systems, or equivalent experience required. Master's degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in financial services and/or research and analytics.
  • Expert skill in using analytics tools (such as SAS, SPSS, Minitab, R, etc.) in a corporate environment.
  • Expert skill in design and execution of complex statistical modeling and testing involving linear and non-linear regression techniques (e.g. CHAID, CART, ANOVA, MANOVA, LOGISTIC, TTEST etc.).
  • Expert skill with relational databases, data warehousing, data mining and OLAP.
  • Expert skill in experimental design and impact assessment.
  • Significant business acumen working with insurance or investment environments.
  • Advanced ability to tailor key insights and messages appropriately for audience (senior leader, line manager, etc.).
  • Ability to work at both a conceptual and detail level with strong statistical data analysis skills, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Expert ability to translate strategic business logic into technical report requirements and schema design.
  • Efficient and effective communications skills with key business partners, tailored to client needs and expectations.
  • Effective in leading less experienced resources in large project work, providing assistance in consulting, design, implementation, and/or communication.

  • Ability to utilize technology to create reports and/or secure information necessary for decision making in a manner that is readily consumable by leadership.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $118,105.00 - $159,788.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
