ABOUT THE POSITION

Communications Director | Any VHB Office

 

Overview: VHB is seeking an experienced Communications Director to elevate our employee experience programs across various media and interactive technologies. This pivotal role, reporting to the Senior VP of Human Resources, will serve as the communications strategist and primary liaison to VHB’s People+Culture Team and other senior leaders. If you are a visionary leader with a flair for strategic storytelling and a passion for fostering an engaging work environment, we invite you to join our dynamic team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Communications Leadership:
    • Develop and implement proactive communications plans aligned with VHB's strategic objectives to inform, educate, and engage employees on HR programs and policies. This includes planning, directing, and delivering communications related to talent acquisition, total rewards, learning and development, and employee engagement in support of VHB’s strategic plan and growth initiatives.
    • Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition Director to craft and execute a compelling communications strategy to strengthen VHB’s external employer brand and attract top talent.
  • Employee Engagement:
    • Innovate and drive employee engagement programs that reinforce VHB’s brand and stimulate continuous improvement.
    • Develop and execute strategies and standards for communications programs that help strengthen the employee experience and differentiate VHB as an employer of choice.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop the People+Culture Communications Team, ensuring high performance and growth.
    • Foster a strong, connected team culture that emphasizes collaboration, innovative thinking, and shared success.
  • Content and Media Management:
    • Identify and recommend key media outlets, conferences, events, and visibility platforms to bolster employee engagement and employer brand.
    • Direct the creation and placement of internal and external communications, including content development, campaign management, media relations, and event planning.
    • Ensure consistent application of VHB’s brand and voice standards across all communications.
  • Advisory and Compliance:
    • Provide communications coaching and support across regions, marketing, design teams, and others as required.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as VHB policies and procedures.

  • Exceptional leadership, decision-making, and organizational capabilities.
  • Proficiency in digital marketing and communications platforms, with a focus on audience analytics.
  • Strong understanding of HR programs and experience in employer branding strategies.
  • Superior verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Expertise in multi-platform content creation (print, web, social media).
  • Ability to demystify complex concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Public relations savvy and strategic storytelling acumen.
  • Mastery in persuasive communication and message alignment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Commitment to quality and excellence in editing.
  • Strong research skills and information-seeking behavior.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to multitask, self-motivate, and manage projects effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • 10+ years in leading marketing communications, preferably within the AEC industry.
    • 5+ years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
