Director of People

Voltage Park is on a mission to make machine learning infrastructure accessible to all, from large enterprises and research universities to seed-stage startups and nonprofits. Providing seamless access to compute with pricing and inventory transparency is the future of access to GPUs, and we are the only cloud provider offering a platform that shows all available GPUs  with transparent, market-based pricing, in addition to long-term reserve contracts for our customers.

This is a remote role, but you must be based in one of our core locations: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, or Chicago.

We are looking for a Director of People to meaningfully shape the employee experience from the ground up at our fast-growing start-up. At Voltage Park, our People team has three core mandates:

  1. Empower company leaders to retain, manage, and equitably advance talent through competitive compensation, performance systems, strategic planning, and learning & development.

  2. Design, implement, and maintain the systems, platforms, data, processes, and places that contribute to a highly-functioning workplace environment.

  3. Influence the people-centric practices that translate into Voltage Park culture (Values-driven, growth-minded, highly-accountable, thoughtfully inclusive).

As a Director of People, you will be accountable for the strategy, planning, and achievement of the People Team mandate, including the management of the team responsible for its execution.

You will work closely with our Head of Talent to develop strategies and vision for delivering a seamless transition from candidate to team member, and to ensure connective tissue between the employee lifecycle and the recruitment of talent.

As Voltage Park is in the early stages of our scaling journey, you will also act as a player/coach. In particular, you will act as an HRBP to our managers to ensure they are fully supported through change management, performance coaching, and any matters of legal compliance.

This is a fully remote role (with some travel required 1-2x a quarter), but the requirement is for candidates to be based where we index higher on team members (SF, LA, Chicago, SEA).

How your work moves the mission forward

  • Voltage Park team members meaningfully advance their capability and expand their capacity based on your vision and expertise with respect to modern feedback frameworks, performance management, and employee development.

  • Voltage Park culture is consistently described as values-driven, growth-oriented, highly-accountable, thoughtfully inclusive – and overall, highly functional and high performance.

  • Voltage Park team member retention is consistently high due to thoughtfully designed comp and benefits, but also because people feel an intense connection to each other based on the culture you’ve helped build.

Skills and experience you need to be successful

  • 10+ years of HR experience, with at least 3-5 years in senior or director-level roles at growth stage, highly-distributed, engineering-driven environments. HR certifications (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or similar) are a plus.

  • Experience building and maintaining a high-performance, inclusive company culture that emphasizes accountability, growth, and employee well-being.

  • Deep understanding of compensation strategy, performance management, and learning & development with a focus on equity and employee growth.

  • Proven experience in designing and implementing HR systems, performance management frameworks, and compensation programs.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and empower leaders across the organization.

  • Experience unifying a workforce distributed across office space, physical work environments (e.g. data centers), and remote positions.

  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, compliance, and employment law – especially as it pertains to equitable hiring and performance management.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to clearly and concisely explain problems and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Things that will differentiate your candidacy

  • Experience meaningfully integrating AI into the employee experience

  • Experience working at companies in HPC and/or Cloud Computing

  • Experience with skilled physical labor workforce (e.g. data center technicians)

  • Belief in building equitable and inclusive culture reflective of the world we serve.
